Activating a Metallization Switch for Record Hydrogen Evolution in Single‐Atom Modified Polar MOF Piezocatalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Piezocatalytic hydrogen evolution enables the conversion of mechanical energy into chemical fuels, but its efficiency is constrained by a trade‐off between piezoelectric polarization and electronic conductivity. Strong piezoelectric polarization is essential for sufficient driving force, yet highly polar materials typically suffer from poor ...

Synchrotron‐Based Nano‐X‐Ray Absorption Near‐Edge Structure Revealing Intracellular Heterogeneity of Iron Species in Magnetotactic Bacteria

open access: yesSmall Science, 2022
Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) sequester iron from the environment to biomineralize magnetite or greigite nanoparticles in magnetosome organelles, though the necessity of intracellular iron storage for the formation process is still in question ...

Cationic exchange in nanosized ZnFe2O4 spinel revealed by experimental and simulated near-edge absorption structure

open access: yes, 2006
The non-equilibrium cation site occupancy in nanosized zinc ferrites (6-13 nm) with different degree of inversion (0.2 to 0.4) was investigated using Fe and Zn K-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy XANES and EXAFS, and magnetic measurements. The very good

Pulsed Electrolysis Prevents Sulfur Poisoning for Sustained Sulfide Valorization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Integrating pulsed electrolysis with Sc‐doped NiFe‐LDH enables sustainable sulfide valorization, achieving >500 h stability, 99.8% efficiency. Moreover, this technology produces high‐purity sulfur and sodium formate, boosting profit by 121% to $1,294.7 per tonne of hydrogen.

X-ray absorption spectroscopy of lanmodulin-derived peptides bound to rare earth elements

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation
A sustainable and robust supply chain of rare earth elements (REEs) is necessary to meet our consumer, national security and clean energy goals. However, current intra-REE separation technologies (e.g.

Inert Catalytic Sites Unlocked by Micropollutants for Rapid Water Decontamination with Near‐Complete Chemical Utilization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Micropollutants can act as molecular triggers that activate a newly designed and chemically inert Fenton‐like PKU‐24 catalyst for on‐demand singlet oxygen generation from peroxymonosulfate (PMS), enabling nearly complete peroxide utilization and selective micropollutant removal from complex real‐world wastewater.

Heating experiments of the Tagish Lake meteorite: Investigation of the effects of short-term heating on chondritic organics

open access: yes, 2019
We present in this study the effects of short-term heating on organics in the Tagish Lake meteorite and how the difference in the heating conditions can modify the organic matter (OM) in a way that complicates the interpretation of a parent body’s ...
