Xanthurenic Acid Dehydroxylation by Fecal Microflora

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1965
SummaryIn vitro dehydroxylation of xanthurenic acid has been demonstrated in an artificial cecum charged with rabbit fecal fluid. The dehydroxylated product, 8-hy-droxyquinaldic acid, was isolated and crystallized. The results clearly indicate that intestinal microorganisms are responsible for the dehydroxylation reaction.

Improved fluorometric quantification of urinary xanthurenic acid [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1996
Abstract Measurement of urinary xanthurenic acid (XA) has been used clinically to study a variety of disorders caused by vitamin B6 deficiency. To obviate some cumbersome steps of current methods for measuring XA in human urine, we have developed a simple fluorometric method.
