One Health Insights From Pteropus medius: Nipah Virus Spillover, Microbiota, and Antimicrobial Resistance

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
Environmental and anthropogenic drivers of antibiotic resistance dissemination. The cycle reinforces how anthropogenic inputs, such as sewage, animal dung, hospital effluent, and agricultural runoff bring resistant bacteria and antibiotic residues into soil and water.

MetF‐Dependent Methionine Biosynthesis Is Required for Mycobacterium tuberculosis Survival and In Vivo Persistence

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
MetF is essential for both in vitro and in vivo growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, whereas MetE, previously considered essential in vitro, is dispensable in vivo. Given the importance of methionine and folate metabolism as drug targets, MetF represents a promising candidate, highlighting the need for in vivo validation.

Drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis among Nepalese patients at a tuberculosis referral center.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
BackgroundMultidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), characterized by isoniazid and rifampicin resistance, is caused by chromosomal mutations that restrict treatment options and complicate tuberculosis management.

Metabolomic analysis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis reveals metabolic profiles for identification of drug-resistant tuberculosis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
The detection of pre-extensively (pre-XDR) and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) is challenging. Drug-susceptibility tests for some anti-TB drugs, especially ethambutol (ETH) and ethionamide (ETO), are problematic due to overlapping ...

Pathogenesis of Tuberculosis: Interplay Between Host Antituberculosis Immunity and Immune Evasion Strategies of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis–host interactions and infection outcomes. Following initial infection, alveolar macrophages phagocytose the pathogen, prompting the recruitment of innate immune cells including neutrophils, NK cells, and interstitial macrophages.

MDR-TB and XDR-TB: drug resistance and treatment outcomes

open access: yes, 2009
We read with interest the study by HWANG et al., which continues the discussion on factors associated with poor outcomes in the treatment ofmultidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDRTB) and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB).

The timing of death in patients with tuberculosis who die during anti-tuberculosis treatment in Andhra Pradesh, South India [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: India has 2.0 million estimated tuberculosis (TB) cases per annum with an estimated 280,000 TBrelated deaths per year. Understanding when in the course of TB treatment patients die is important for determining the type of intervention to be ...

A Comparative Policy Review of Tuberculosis Infection Control Policies Across Six Countries: Insights on Screening, Prevention, and Treatment Strategies

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Tuberculosis (TB) infection remains one of the major global public health challenges, disproportionately affecting vulnerable and marginalized populations. This study aims to compare prevention, screening, and treatment policies for TB in selected countries to identify effective strategies and policy gaps that may inform ...

Linezolid-containing regimens for the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis in South African children.

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: Treatment options for drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) are limited. Linezolid has been successfully used to treat DR-TB in adults, but there are few case reports of its use in children for TB.
