Treatment Practices, Outcomes, and Costs of Multidrug-Resistant and Extensively Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis, United States, 2005–2007

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2014
To describe factors associated with multidrug-resistant (MDR), including extensively-drug-resistant (XDR), tuberculosis (TB) in the United States, we abstracted inpatient, laboratory, and public health clinic records of a sample of MDR TB patients ...

Minimal Diversity of Drug-Resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis Strains, South Africa

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2014
Multidrug- (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR TB) are commonly associated with Beijing strains. However, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, which has among the highest incidence and mortality for MDR and XDR TB, data suggest that non ...

Laboratory-confirmed DR, pre-XDR, and XDR-TB cases reported in the Free State, South Africa, from 2019 to 2022, according to previous and updated WHO definitions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases
Introduction: The global challenge of Tuberculosis (TB) control persists, particularly in addressing drug-resistant (DR) TB across regions. Over time, the rise in rifampicin (RIF/R) resistance, multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB, characterised until 2022 by

Multidrug- and Extensively Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis, Germany

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2008
We evaluated risk factors and treatment outcomes associated with multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) tuberculosis (TB) in Germany in 2004–2006. In 177 (4%) of 4,557 culture-positive TB cases, Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates

Design, Synthesis, Antimycobacterial Evaluation, and In Silico Investigation of Benzisothiazole‐Based Hydrazide Derivatives as Potential Anti‐Tuberculosis Agents

open access: yesChemical Biology &Drug Design, Volume 108, Issue 3, September 2026.
A novel series of benzisothiazole‐based hydrazide derivatives was designed, synthesized, and evaluated for antitubercular activity. Compound 8k emerged as the most potent candidate (MIC = 0.25 μg/mL) with a high selectivity index (SI = 42) and bactericidal activity. Molecular docking and 100 ns simulations identified InhA as the probable target.

Extensively Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis, Burkina Faso

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2010
Because data from countries in Africa are limited, we measured the proportion of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) tuberculosis (TB) cases among TB patients in Burkina Faso for whom retreatment was failing.

Adverse events in bedaquiline‐ and pretomanid‐based regimens for drug‐resistant tuberculosis from trial, implementation and pharmacovigilance studies

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Volume 92, Issue 8, Page 2607-2623, August 2026.
Abstract The availability of safety data, particularly concerning adverse events (AEs) associated with the new shorter regimen for drug‐resistant tuberculosis (TB) containing a bedaquiline–pretomanid‐based regimen, is still limited. This systematic review aims to provide a comprehensive and updated analysis of AEs related to this new regimen by ...
