Reassigning the role of a mesophilic xylan hydrolysing family GH43 β-xylosidase from Bacteroides ovatus, BoExXyl43A as exo-β-1,4-xylosidase

open access: yesCurrent Research in Biotechnology
The recombinant 40 kDa BoExXyl43A glycoside hydrolase family 43 (GH43) from bacterium Bacteroides ovatus exhibited highest specific activity (U/mg) against corn cob xylan (136.8), followed by Beechwood xylan (81.1), Carbosynth xylan (69.3), 4-O-D ...

LiBr‐Formic Acid Enables Lignocellulosic Biomass Fractionation within 10  Minutes

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
LiBr‐assisted formic acid fractionates lignocellulose in 10 min, removing 96.0% lignin and 99.6% hemicellulose to give high‐purity cellulose (97.2%, cellulose Iβ retained) and lignin (98.5%). The cellulose yields >90% glucose after 12 h of enzymatic hydrolysis.

2D separation and profiling of complex oligosaccharide mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Oligosaccharides present in various natural sources can contain different linkages, susbstitutions and building blocks with the same mass. Oligosaccharide mixtures often contain these isomeric and isobaric structures, which causes their complexity. These

The pattern of xylan acetylation suggests xylan may interact with cellulose microfibrils as a twofold helical screw in the secondary plant cell wall of Arabidopsis thaliana. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The interaction between xylan and cellulose microfibrils is important for secondary cell wall properties in vascular plants; however, the molecular arrangement of xylan in the cell wall and the nature of the molecular bonding between the polysaccharides ...

Trash‐to‐Energy: Shedding Light on Plastic and Biomass Valorization Through Artificial Photosynthesis Towards Sustainability

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
To engrave a circular economy, artificial photosynthesis emerges as a promising and prosperous strategy to upcycle solid waste into clean fuel and valuable chemicals for sustainable fuel production. This review highlights the design of photocatalysts and external‐field‐assisted photocatalysis for effective solid waste conversion toward an ...

A Transcriptomic Analysis of Xylan Mutants Does Not Support the Existence of a Secondary Cell Wall Integrity System in Arabidopsis

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Yeast have long been known to possess a cell wall integrity (CWI) system, and recently an analogous system has been described for the primary walls of plants (PCWI) that leads to changes in plant growth and cell wall composition.

Reaction Kinetics of One-Pot Xylan Conversion to Xylitol via Precious Metal Catalyst

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemical Engineering, 2020
The hydrolytic hydrogenation of xylan to xylitol by a one-pot process was studied in detail in a batch reactor. The reaction was catalyzed by a combination of diluted sulfuric acid and precious metal Ru on carbon powder.

Sulfonated sporopollenin as an efficient and recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for dehydration of D-xylose and xylan into furfural [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The natural acidity of sporopollenin, the biopolymer coating the outer walls of pollen grains, was enhanced by the sulfonation of its surface. Modified sporopollenin displaying sulfonic acid groups has been prepared, characterized by elemental analysis ...

Medicine‐Food Plant Polysaccharides Modulate Diabetes and Diabetic Complications Through Maintaining Gut Function: A Review

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
Polysaccharides derived from medicine‐food plants restore intestinal barrier integrity and microbiota balance while modulating short‐chain fatty acid levels. These modifications significantly alleviate diabetes and its complications, including nephropathy, retinopathy, cardiovascular disease, and neuropathy.
