Functionalized xylans in the production of xylan-coated paper laminates
Reactive and Functional Polymers, 2017Abstract Two functionalized xylans, namely a carboxymethyl xylan (CMX) and a 2-dodecenyl succinic anhydride-modified xylan (X-2-DSA) were, i) synthesized from beechwood xylan (BX) and characterized for their structural properties, thermal behaviour and molar mass and, ii) used in the production of paper/xylan laminates for food packaging.

Xylan-degrading activity in yeasts: Growth on xylose, xylan and hemicelluloses
Folia Microbiologica, 1978The ability to grow in liquid media with D-xylose, xylan from decidous trees, and hemicelluloses from conifers was tested in 95 strains of 35 genera of yeasts and yeast-like organisms. Of 54 strains thriving on xylose, only 13 (genera Aureobasidium, Cryptococcus and Trichosporon) utilized xylan and hemicelluloses as growth substrates.
