SUMMARY Xylazine, morphine, butorphanol, and nalbuphine were evaluated in 5 adult male horses, using dental dolorimetry. Comparisons were made at 30, 60, and 100 minutes after iv drug administration. Peak analgesia and the time to develop peak analgesia also were compared. Xylazine induced a marked increase in the tooth pulp pain threshold measurements

Evaluation of Xylazine in Camels
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1980SUMMARY When xylazine was given intramuscularly to 12 apparently healthy adult camels (Camelus dromedarius) at the rate of 0.4 mg/kg of body weight, mean values for onset of weak time, down time, and time until recovery were 8.6±1.1, 10.5±0.6, and 150±56.9 minutes, respectively.

Xylazine for sedation of horses
New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 1977Abstract Extract The introduction of chemical restraint into horse practice brought significant advantages in handling fearful and fractious animals as well as allowing the practitioner to carry out procedures which would normally arouse considerable resistance from the equine patient. Phenothiazine derivatives were widely used for these purposes prior

Effects of ketamine, xylazine, and a combination of ketamine and xylazine in Pekin ducks
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1989SUMMARY Effects of ketamine, xylazine, and a combination of ketamine and xylazine were studied in 12 male Pekin ducks (7 to 12 weeks old; mean [± SD] body weight, 3.1 ± 0.3 kg). After venous and arterial catheterization and fixation of a temperature probe in the cloaca, each awake duck was confined, but not restrained, in an open box in a dimly lit ...

Xylazine Pharmacokinetics in Patients Testing Positive for Fentanyl and Xylazine
Clinical ChemistryAbstract Background The increasing prevalence of xylazine in the illicit drug supply is a growing concern for major health consequences in individuals who use fentanyl mixed with xylazine, but limited data are available regarding the pharmacokinetics of xylazine in humans.

Comparison of lidocaine, xylazine, and lidocaine−xylazine for caudal epidural analgesia in cattle
Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia, 2002To directly compare the time to onset and duration of analgesia produced by a lidocaine/xylazine combination with that produced by lidocaine and xylazine administered alone in the caudal epidural space of dairy cattle. Design Prospective randomized experimental study.Nine adult (> 4 years of age) dairy cows (520-613 kg).Caudal epidural analgesia was ...
