Shannon's equivocation for forensic Y-STR marker selection

Forensic Science International: Genetics, 2015
Short tandem repeat (STR) markers are widely and continuously used in forensic applications. However, past research has demonstrated substantial allelic association between STR markers on both autosomes and the X chromosome, leading to partially redundant information that these markers can provide.

Y-STR loci diversity in native Alaskan populations

International Journal of Legal Medicine, 2011
Y chromosome short tandem repeat (Y-STR) loci are important genetic markers for forensic biological evidence analyses. However, paternal inheritance, reduced effective population size, and lack of independence between loci can reduce Y-STR diversity and may yield greater population substructure effects on a locus-by-locus basis compared with the ...

A comprehensive Y-STR portrait of Argentinean populations

Forensic Science International: Genetics, 2016
A study of 23 Y-STRs was conducted in 257 individuals living in urban areas from eight Argentinean provinces. The data were meta-analyzed together with 364 profiles obtained from the literature that represent other five provinces. A total of 255 different haplotypes were observed (253 singletons).

Estimating stutter rates for Y-STR alleles

Forensic Science International: Genetics Supplement Series, 2011
Stutter peaks are artefacts that arise during PCR amplification of short tandem repeats. Stutter peaks are especially important in forensic case work with DNA mixtures. The aim of the study was primarily to estimate the stutter rates of the AmpF/STR Yfiler kit.

Polymorphism of 17 Y-STR loci in Taiwan population

Forensic Science International, 2008
Haplotypes and allele frequencies of 17 Y-STRs included in the AmpFlSTR((R)) Yfilertrade mark kit (DYS19, DYS385, DYS389 I, DYS389 II, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393, DYS437, DYS438, DYS439, DYS448, DYS456, DYS458, DYS635, Y GATA H4) were examined in a population sample of 200 unrelated Taiwanese males living in Taiwan.

Rapidly mutating Y-STRs study in Chinese Yi population

International Journal of Legal Medicine, 2018
Y-chromosomal short tandem repeats (Y-STRs) have been widely used in forensic analysis and population genetics. With low to moderate mutation rates, conventional Y-STR panels, including commercially available Y-STR kits, enable the identification of male pedigrees but typically fail to differentiate related male individuals. The introduction of rapidly
