Fish Scales: A Multifunctional Biomaterial from Nature

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Fish scales demonstrate nature's solution to impact protection through overlapping multilayered architecture. This biological design combines mineralized surfaces with collagen networks to achieve both flexibility and fracture resistance. The structural principles inspire advanced protective materials and biomedical implants, where damage tolerance ...

Feedback control for yaw angle with input nonlinearity via input-state linearization

open access: yes, 2006
This paper discusses the yaw control of small-size unmanned helicopter. The yaw dynamics of helicopter involve input nonlinearity, time-varying parameters and the couplings between main and tail rotor.

Contact Lens Knowledge and Practices Among Students in the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesEye &ENT Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Contact lenses (CLs) are increasingly used worldwide for refractive error correction because of their optical, cosmetic, and functional advantages over spectacles. However, although their safe and effective use depends on adequate knowledge and proper hygiene practices, there is limited evidence on contact lens‐related knowledge ...

Air Propellers in Yaw

open access: yes, 1937
Report presents the results of tests conducted at Stanford University of a 3-foot model propeller at four pitch settings and at 0 degree, 10 degrees, 20 degrees, and 30 degrees yaw. In addition to the usual propeller coefficients, cross-wind and vertical

Yaw Control of a Tailless Aircraft Configuration

open access: yes, 2010
The yaw control of a tailless aircraft configuration is investigated. The four trailing-edge control surfaces are actuated using electrical servos which are controlled using a custom designed Ethernet interface.

Blade Count and Rotational Speed Sensitivity of Vertical‐Axis Turbines Under Guided Vehicle‐Generated Transient Wakes

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Passing vehicles generate short‐duration wakes that can be redirected toward a vertical‐axis turbine. The interaction between wake structure, blade count, and rotational speed governs transient torque production. Low‐solidity configurations combined with tuned rotational speed enhance energy extraction under vehicle‐induced gusts.

Yaw control of helicopter: an adaptive guaranteed cost control approach

open access: yes, 2009
This paper discusses the adaptive robust guaranteed cost tracking control problem of linear systems with time-varying uncertainties. The bounds of varying uncertainty ellipsoidal are obtained by set membership identification method. The proposed adaptive

A Comprehensive Review of AI‐Powered Energy Systems

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in developing next‐generation energy systems is getting more day by day. Therefore, incorporating AI enables real‐time decision‐making and advanced grid management, which are essential for optimizing the use of intermittent renewable sources like wind and solar power.

Acid Whey from Industrial Greek Strained Yoghurt: Effect of the Kind of Milk and the Way of Straining on Its Composition and Processing by Nanofiltration

open access: yesDairy
The acid whey derived during the production of Greek yoghurt, i.e., yoghurt acid whey (YAW), is considered as environmental pollutant due to its low pH and high lactose content.

Similar locomotor patterns across Quarter Horse disciplines inform lameness assessment

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Lineage‐based selection is central to the Quarter Horse industry and is often justified by the assumption that morphology determines locomotor function. However, objective evidence linking static conformation to discipline‐specific locomotor behaviour under standardised conditions remains limited.
