A Yaw Rate Based Stability Control for Under-Actuated Vehicles

2020 IEEE 23rd International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC), 2020
Full electric vehicles (FEVs) are becoming more and more common. For these vehicles, a widely adopted driveline configuration consists in all-wheel drive (AWD) technology realized by independently drive front and rear axles. In this paper, we investigate the possibility of implementing an electronic stability control (ESC) exploiting only front and ...

Measuring Yaw Rate with Accelerometers

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2001
<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper presents a new way of measuring yaw rate of the vehicle using two accelerometers. Measurement of yaw rate is inevitable for vehicle stability control systems for contemporary high performance sedans and automatic steering control systems for intelligent vehicles. Compared with accelerometers, the cost of

A Precision Yaw Rate Sensor in Silicon Micromachining

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1998
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A new generation of production-ready dual function sensor which combines a yaw rate sensor with a linear accelerometer, based on silicon micromachining, is presented. The sensor is designed for mass production and high performance applications such as vehicle control systems.

Robust car steering by yaw rate control

29th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 1990
It is shown that feedback control can improve the robustness of the driver-car system with respect to uncertain operating conditions. Robustness is achieved by controlling the yaw rate instead of the steering angle. Integrating unit feedback of the yaw rate error makes the yaw mode unobservable from the front axle lateral acceleration and thereby take ...

A NEW CONCEPT FOR YAW RATE SENSOR MONITORING

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2005
Abstract The electronic stability program (ESP) is a dynamical driving control system that is used to support drivers in critical driving situations. An essential component integrated in the ESP-system is the well-known sensor monitoring system that is mainly applied to detect sensor faults as early as possible so that fail controls can be prevented.

Driver assisted yaw rate control

Proceedings of the 1999 American Control Conference (Cat. No. 99CH36251), 1999
A yaw rate controller was developed that utilizes the rear wheels of a vehicle to improve steering performance. The driver retains control over the front wheels, while a model reference controller (MRC) commands the rear wheels. Experimental results were obtained by implementing the MRC on a scale vehicle. These results indicate significant performance

Yaw Rate Estimation for Vehicle Control Applications

Dynamic Systems and Control, 1996
Abstract This paper describes a method for vehicle yaw rate estimation using two accelerometers and a steer angle sensor. This yaw rate estimate can be used as an inexpensive alternative to commercial yaw rate sensors in vehicle control applications.

Electrohydraulic servo control of vehicle yaw rate angular velocity

Proceedings of 2011 International Conference on Electronic & Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology, 2011
In this paper we develop a Simulink model for a hydraulic servomechanism controlled by a pulse width modulated (PWM) solenoid. The control system used yaw rate as feedback is researched theoretically. It can represent a motion control system in an industrial or manufacturing setting, or a subsystem that controls the position of a valve in an automotive

The Dynamic Effects of Tire Lag on Simulation Yaw Rate Predictions

Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 1994
Two vehicle stability and control simulations, IDSFC and VDANL, are shown to have substantial discrepancies in predicted yaw rate transient response. J-turn and sinusoidal sweep steering maneuvers, at 25 and 50 miles per hour, were used to study simulated vehicle behavior.

Vehicle yaw rate control based on piecewise affine regions

2010 IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium, 2010
This paper shows that an active front steering control, that considers the nonlinear behaviour of the tire-road forces, can be designed by parameterizing the vehicle dynamics with respect to the measurable yaw rate and taking into account the steady state behaviour of the vehicle.
