Fast high-efficiency integrated waveguide photodetectors using novel hybrid vertical/butt coupling geometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
We report a novel coupling geometry for integrated waveguide photodetectors−a hybrid vertical coupling/butt coupling scheme that allows the integration of fast, efficient, photodetectors with conventional double heterostructure waveguides.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Growth and yield performance of late-season plum cultivars in the Belgrade area [PDF]

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Serbica, 2020
Characteristics of growth and cropping (trunk cross-sectional area, yield per tree, yield efficiency, biennial bearing index, and fruit weight) were studied in 25 late-season plum cultivars in the Belgrade area during the eight-year period (2012-2019 ...

Scintillation yield and time dependence from electronic and nuclear recoils in liquid neon

open access: yes, 2012
We have performed measurements of scintillation light in liquid neon, observing a signal yield in our detector as high as (3.5 $\pm$ 0.4) photoelectrons/keV.

Optimization Schemes for Efficient Multiple Exciton Generation and Extraction in Colloidal Quantum Dots [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Multiple exciton generation is a process in which more than one electron hole pair is generated per absorbed photon. It allows us to increase the efficiency of solar energy harvesting. Experimental studies have shown the multiple exciton generation yield

Science-based decision support for formulating crop fertilizer recommendations in sub-Saharan Africa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Open Access Article; Published online: 31 Jan 2020In sub-Saharan Africa, there is considerable spatial and temporal variability in relations between nutrient application and crop yield, due to varying inherent soil nutrients supply, soil moisture, crop ...

Efficient prediction of (p,n) yields

open access: yes, 2009
In the continuous deceleration approximation, charged particles decelerate without any spread in energy as they traverse matter. This approximation simplifies the calculation of the yield of nuclear reactions, for which the cross-section depends on the particle energy.

Drip irrigation efficiency in Brassica spp yield

open access: yesManglar, 2022
The effect of doses or sheets of water application by drip irrigation on the yield of Brassica oleracea var. capitata (col) and Brassica oleracea var. Italic (broccoli), at the Fruit and Oleric Research Center (CIFO) - Huánuco-Peru. The factorial design with 6 treatments and 2 repetitions was used, with three irrigations calculated at 80, 100 and 120 ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...
