Yolk lipids

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1992
The mature egg yolk of the domestic hen possesses remarkably constant lipid and lipoprotein composition despite much variation in dietary and environmental conditions. The greatest differences are seen in the fatty acid composition of the triacylglycerols which may show significant alterations in the content of the minor acids including certain ...

Effects of crotoxin (lecithinase A) on egg yolk and yolk constituents

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1954
Abstract The gelation of egg yolk caused by freezing was reduced by incubation with crotoxin (lecithinase A) before or after freezing. The lipoprotein fractions of yolk, lipovitellin and lipovitellenin, were attacked by crotoxin. The lysophospholipoproteins formed were hemolytic, had changed solubilities in water, and could be split by ethanol to ...

Yolk Sac Carcinoma

Southern Medical Journal, 1976
Yolk sac carcinoma is an uncommon neoplasm which has appeared under a variety of names. It has been reported not only in gonadal sites but also in the mediastinum, pineal body, and sacral areas. The typical histologic appearance of this tumor and the variety of locations are demonstrated by four case reports. A 57-year-old patient with an ovarian tumor

The yolk of Holostean fishes

Development, 1969
ABSTRACT Eggs of some archaic fishes, such as Polypterus, sturgeon or the holosteans, resemble amphibian eggs. Not only has the similarity been found in the amount of yolk (mesolecithal types of eggs), which indicates the manner of egg cleavage (holoblastic) in these vertebrates, but also in the morphological composition of yolk.

Steroids in egg yolk

Steroids, 1972
Abstract Daily intravenous injection of 17β-estradiol-6,7-H3 or progesterone-7α-H3 into laying hens led to the deposition of radioactive steroids in the egg yolk. The transfer of radioactivity to yolk reached a steady state, representing approximately 0.04% of the injected dose, within 4–7 days.

Surface Activity of Yolk, Plasma and Dispersions of Yolk Fractions

Journal of Food Science, 1966
SUMMARY Undiluted yolk, plasma, and a 4.8% livetin solution had surface tensions of about 44 dynes/cm and interfacial tensions of around 5 dynes/cm. Extensive dilution of the yolk and plasma with either water or 10% NaCl did not bring about marked decreases in the activity of the surfaces.

Studies on amphibian yolk III. A resolution of yolk platelet components

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1963
Abstract Intact isolated yolk platelets have been analyzed for nucleic acids, lipid, hot trichloroacetic acid-extractable carbohydrate and water-extractable constituents. It is concluded that yolk platelets in situ contain no RNA, but the amount of DNA which they contain is still uncertain.

Hemopoiesis in the human yolk sac

American Journal of Anatomy, 1989
AbstractThe endodermal layer of the human yolk sac was examined three‐dimensionally with light microscopy on serial sections using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy to find the origin of hemo poiesis in the yolk sac. Cell‐labelling techniques were also employed using the monoclonal anti‐transferrin receptor antibody ...

COLORIMETRIC CHARACTERIZATION OF EGG YOLK AND EGG YOLK PRODUCTS

Journal of Food Science, 1973
Procedures are suggested for COLOR‐EYE® evaluation of various yolk forms and products. Chromaticity coordinates derived from COLOR‐EYE determinations and the calculated dominant wavelength (λ d ), excitation purity (P e ) and luminous reflectance (Y
