Phenomenological and Physically Based Modeling of Flow Stress and Strengthening Mechanism of Inconel 718

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nickel‐based alloys are widely used in high‐temperature applications due to their excellent mechanical strength and oxidation resistance. However, properties such as high‐temperature strength and pronounced work‐hardening make them difficult to machine.

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Multifunctional Crushing and Piezoresistive Self‐Sensing in Conductive Epoxy/CNT‐Coated Polyetherimide TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports lightweight polyetherimide triply periodic minimal surfaces lattices coated with carbon nanotube‐reinforced epoxy that combine mechanical robustness with self‐sensing. The conformal coating enhances stiffness, strength and energy absorption while enabling reliable strain monitoring.

A 16 Myr Super-Neptune in Upper Centaurus Lupus and a Preliminary Survey of Transiting Planets in Sco-Cen with TESS

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Measuring the properties of planets younger than about 50 Myr helps to test different planetary formation and evolution models. NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) has observed nearly the entire sky, including a wide range of star-forming

Ultracool dwarfs in open clusters and star-forming regions

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
In this contribution I review the results of the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) Galactic Clusters Survey (GCS) on the Initial Mass Function (IMF) and the current searches for young T dwarfs in open clusters and star-forming regions.

Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

Young Star Clusters Dominate the Production of Detached Black Hole–Star Binaries

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The recent discovery of two detached black hole–star (BH–star) binaries from Gaia’s third data release has sparked interest in understanding the formation mechanisms of these systems.

Star-disc encounters in young star clusters

open access: yes, 2009
According to current knowledge, star formation occurs preferentially in clustered environments. As a byproduct of the star formation process young stars are found to be surrounded by accretion discs that are potential birth places of planets and planetary systems.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Tracing the Earliest Stages of Star and Cluster Formation in 19 Nearby Galaxies with PHANGS-JWST and HST: Compact 3.3 μm Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Emitters and Their Relation to the Optical Census of Star Clusters

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The earliest stages of star and cluster formation are hidden within dense cocoons of gas and dust, limiting their detection at optical wavelengths. With the unprecedented infrared capabilities of JWST, we can now observe dust-enshrouded star formation ...
