Legacies of domestication, trade and herder mobility shape extant male zebu cattle diversity in South Asia and Africa

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
All tropically adapted humped cattle (Bos indicus or “zebu”), descend from a domestication process that took place >8,000 years ago in South Asia. Here we present an intercontinental survey of Y-chromosome diversity and a comprehensive reconstruction of ...

Signatures of positive selection in East African Shorthorn Zebu: A genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphism analysis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2015
The small East African Shorthorn Zebu (EASZ) is the main indigenous cattle across East Africa. A recent genome wide SNP analysis revealed an ancient stable African taurine x Asian zebu admixture.

Body Weight Estimation in Holstein × Zebu Crossbred Heifers: Comparative Analysis of XGBoost and LightGBM Algorithms. [PDF]

open access: yesVet Med Sci
This study evaluated the effectiveness of XGBoost and LightGBM algorithms for the purpose of live weight estimation in Holstein × Zebu crossbred heifers. In the analysis performed with a large biometric dataset, both models provided high accuracy, with the XGBoost algorithm standing out with R2 = 0.999 in the training set and R2 = 0.986 in the test set.
