Hedgehog signaling from the ZLI regulates diencephalic regional identity

open access: yesNature Neuroscience, 2004
The zona limitans intrathalamica (ZLI), a narrow compartment in the vertebrate forebrain that bisects the diencephalon transversely, expresses the secreted factor sonic hedgehog (Shh). Because genetic disruption of Shh in mouse causes severe early developmental defects, this strategy has not been useful in identifying a ZLI-specific role for this gene.

Orientational Dynamics in the Isotropic Phase of a Nematic Mixture: Subpicosecond Time Resolved Optical Kerr Effect Experiments on ZLI-1167 Liquid Crystal

open access: yesMolecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 1995
Abstract We have investigated the orientational dynamics of the ternary mixture of propyl, pentyl and heptyl cyano-cyclohexyls (ZLI-1167) in the isotropic phase over a wide temperature range (372-453 K) by means of transient optical Kerr effect spectroscopy. The orientational dynamics of ZLI-1167 isotropic phase shows a complex relaxation pattern where

Solvation dynamics of Coumarin 503 in the liquid-crystal mixture ZLI 1167

open access: yesJournal of the Chemical Society, Faraday Transactions, 1998
The solvation dynamics of the dye Coumarin 503 in the nematic mixture ZLI 1167 has been investigated by means of time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy, both in the nematic and isotropic phases of the sample. No alignment was imposed on the micro-domains of the nematic phase, so that a complete depolarization of the emitted light was obtained. For the

ZLI-1695 Liquid Crystal Anisotropy Characterization in the Near Infrared by Generalized Ellipsometry

open access: yesMolecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 2003
One key point for an advantageous use of liquid crystals in optical devices for telecom applications is a proper design and simulation capability. For this purpose it is mandatory to know the optical behaviour of these materials at the wavelength of interest, i.e. the transparency windows of the optical fibers in the Near-IR region.

Order and Dynamics of 9,10-Diphenylanthracene in the Liquid Crystal ZLI-1167. A Fluorescence Depolarization Study

Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 1996
Abstract The behavior of the probe 9,10-diphenylanthracene (DPA) dissolved in the nematic and isotropic phase of the cyanocyclohexyl mesophase mixture ZLI-1167 has been investigated using fluorescence depolarization on the nanosecond time scale. The orientational order parameters and the rotational diffusion coefficients of the fluorescent probe ...

Reactivity in smectic liquid crystals. Rearrangement of MSE induced by the smectic B mesophase of ZLI 1544

Nuovo Cimento Della Societa Italiana Di Fisica D - Condensed Matter, Atomic, Molecular and Chemical Physics, Biophysics, 1983
The rearrangement of MSE has been carried out in the smectic B phase of ZLI 1544 (4-(trans-4-n-pentyclyclohexyl)-4′-trans-4-n-propylcyclohexyl-biphenyl) in order to probe the occurrence of liquid-crystalline-solvent effects. The different mesophases of ZLI 1544 have been previously studied by the X-ray diffraction technique in order to characterize the

Aouelloul glass: Aluminum 26 limit and some geochemical comparisons with Zli sandstone

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1972
Results of the analysis of Aouelloul crater glass for cosmogenic 26Al place severe constraints on the possibility that the Aouelloul crater was formed by a glassy body that was also the source of the Aouelloul glass. The size of such a body, calculated from the 26Al upper limit of 4.3 dpm/kg at time of formation, is much too large to have produced ...
