Segregation of tungsten atoms at ZrB2 grain boundaries in strong ZrB2-SiC-WC ceramics

Scripta Materialia, 2018
Abstract Segregation of solute atoms at grain boundaries has been found in many materials and could have a great impact on their properties. However, such important phenomenon has not been observed in early transition metal borides. In the present work, tungsten segregation at grain boundaries was found in ZrB2-SiC-WC ceramics (ZSW), particularly at ...

Influence of ZrB2 Particles on Dry Sliding Wear Behaviour of AA7075/ZrB2 In-Situ Composites

2020
AA7075/ZrB2 Aluminium Matrix Composites (AMCs) were successfully fabricated using the in-situ fabrication method. The inorganic salts (K2ZrF6 and KBF4) reacted with molten aluminium at 900 °C and formed ZrB2 inside the melt itself. AMC castings were obtained in different volume fractions (0, 3, 6 and 9%) of ZrB2.

Microstructure and ablation properties of SiC/ZrB2–SiC/ZrB2/SiC multilayer coating on graphite

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2019
Abstract To improve ablation resistance of graphite, SiC/ZrB2-SiC/ZrB2/SiC coating was prepared by pack cementation and CVD. SiC/ZrB2–SiC/ZrB2/SiC coating showed excellent ablation resistance, its mass and linear ablation rate were only 0.27 mg/s and 0.57 μm/s after ablation under oxyacetylene flame for 298 s.

ZrB2 thin films deposited on GaN(0001) by magnetron sputtering from a ZrB2 target

Journal of Crystal Growth, 2016
Abstract ZrB2 films were deposited on 900 °C-preheated or non-preheated GaN(0001) surfaces by direct current magnetron sputtering from a compound target. Analytical transmission electron microscopy and scanning transmission electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy revealed a 0001 fiber ...

Ultra-refractory ZrB2 based ceramics

2006
Zirconium diboride (ZrB) ceramics have high melting point, high hardness, high electrical conductivity, excellent corrosion resistance against molten iron and non-basic slags and superb thermal shock resistance. They constitute a class of promising materials for high temperature applications in several industrial sectors, like foundry or refractory ...
