Levansucrase from Zymomonas mobilis
Biotechnology Letters, 1983Levansucrase (EC 2.4.1.10) from Zymomonas mobilis was purified from protamine sulfate treated cell free extracts by DEAE-trisacryl ionexchange chromatography to produce a 330-fold partial purification with an 11 % yield. Levansucrase was inhibited completely by glucose (30mM) and ethanol (1.6 M).

Oxidative phosphorylation in Zymomonas mobilis
Archives of Microbiology, 1993The obligately fermentative aerotolerant bacterium Zymomonas mobilis was shown to possess oxidative phosphorylation activity. Increased intracellular ATP levels were observed in aerated starved cell suspension in the presence of ethanol or acetaldehyde. Ethanolconsuming Z. mobilis generated a transmembrane pH gradient.

Formation of sorbitol by Zymomonas mobilis
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1984Sorbitol is formed as the major by-product in ethanol fermentations by Zymomonas mobilis when both glucose and fructose are present in the fermentation medium. The amount of sorbitol produced was equivalent to as much as 11% of the original carbon source, decreasing the ethanol yield correspondingly.

Sorbitol production by Zymomonas mobilis
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1984High resolution 13C Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has been employed to determine the chemical composition of the unknown major products in a sucrose or fructose plus glucose fermentation to ethanol by the bacterium Zymmonas mobilis. When grown on these sugars Z.mobilis was found to produce significant amounts of sorbitol, up to 43 g·l-1

Byproducts from Zymomonas mobilis
1991Z. mobilis is a microorganism that is not only an extremely efficient producer of alcohol, but also is capable of producing other metabolites in high concentrations under the correct culture conditions. The technology exists to manufacture fructose, sorbitol and gluconic acid at high yields and rates; all three are valuable chemicals.

Cosmeceutical properties of levan produced by Zymomonas mobilis
International Journal of Cosmetic Science, 2006Levan, a polysaccharide that can be produced by both plants and micro‐organisms, is a sugar polymer composed of fructose, with‐2,6 linkages. Here, we have attempted to assess the possible use of levan produced by Zymomonas mobilis as a cosmeceutical ingredient.

Behavior of the IncW plasmid Sa in Zymomonas mobilis
Plasmid, 1987The stability of the broad-host-range IncW R plasmid Sa in Zymomonas mobilis ZM6100(Sa) was monitored using three antibiotic resistance markers carried by Sa. When grown in batch culture without selection, ZM6100(Sa) rapidly lost the Sa plasmid. When grown with selection for either kanamycin or spectinomycin resistance, the three Sa markers were ...

Characterization of the two alcohol dehydrogenases of Zymomonas mobilis
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1981Abstract The two alcohol dehydrogenases of Zymomonas mobilis , a fermentative bacterium, have been characterized kinetically and physiologically, and a preliminary biochemical characterization has been made. The two isozymes are separable electrophoretically and have been purified separately by affinity chromatography. One, a tetramer, has a subunit

Capsule formation in Zymomonas mobilis grown on sucrose
World Journal of Microbiology & Biotechnology, 1994A capsule formed around Zymomonas mobilis grown on sucrose, increasing in thickness with higher initial sucrose concentrations. Cryofixation and freeze-substitution electron microscopy techniques preserved this polymer matrix, unlike other techniques.

Hydrogen peroxide production by Zymomonas mobilis
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1989The anaerobic aerotolerant bacterium Zymomonas mobilis 113 produced superoxide (O2-) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) under aerobic conditions. The main generators of H2O2 were glucose oxidase and superoxide dismutase (SOD). The O2-generation was probably related to minor alternative reduced nicotinamide adenine zinucleotide (NADH)-oxidation reactions in ...
