The route of ethanol formation in Zymomonas mobilis [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1966
1. Enzymic evidence supporting the operation of the Entner-Doudoroff pathway in the anaerobic conversion of glucose into ethanol and carbon dioxide by Zymomonas mobilis is presented. 2. Cell extracts catalysed the formation of equimolar amounts of pyruvate and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate from 6-phosphogluconate.

BioLindlar Catalyst: Ene‐Reductase‐Promoted Selective Bioreduction of Cyanoalkynes to Give (Z)‐Cyanoalkenes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 136, Issue 39, September 23, 2024.
Alkynes are attractive starting materials owing to the wide range of possible chemical transformations of this functional group. The selective bioreduction of electron‐poor alkynes catalysed by ene‐reductases to give (Z)‐ or (E)‐alkenes is now reported.

Simultaneous optimization of simulated moving bed adsorption and distillation for 2,3‐butanediol recovery

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 71, Issue 2, February 2025.
Abstract A combined simulated moving bed (SMB) and distillation separation scheme is developed to recover 2,3‐butanediol (BDO) from a dilute fermentation broth. The scheme was integrated into a lignocellulosic biorefinery that produces hydrocarbon fuels from corn stover with BDO as an intermediate.

Recombinant L-Asparaginase from Zymomonas mobilis: A Potential New Antileukemic Agent Produced in Escherichia coli. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
L-asparaginase is an enzyme used as a chemotherapeutic agent, mainly for treating acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In this study, the gene of L-asparaginase from Zymomonas mobilis was cloned in pET vectors, fused to a histidine tag, and had its codons ...

Reaction Engineering for Asymmetric R‐/S‐PAC Synthesis With Ephedrine or Pseudoephedrine Dehydrogenase in Pickering Emulsion

open access: yesEngineering in Life Sciences, Volume 25, Issue 2, February 2025.
ABSTRACT The synthesis of enantiopure α‐hydroxy ketones, particularly R‐ and S‐phenylacetylcarbinol (PAC), represents an important process in the pharmaceutical industry, serving as a pivotal step in the production of drugs. Recently, two novel enzymes, ephedrine dehydrogenase (EDH) and pseudoephedrine dehydrogenase (PseDH), have been described.

Evaluation of Cellulase Production by Zymomonas mobilis

open access: yesBioResources, 2016
Z. mobilis has been widely studied as a potential microbe for consolidated bioprocessing to convert lignocellulosic biomass to fermentable sugars while at the same time producing ethanol. To achieve this goal, Z. mobilis must be evaluated for the production of cellulolytic enzyme.
