Visual Aware Hierarchy Based Food Recognition [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Food recognition is one of the most important components in image-based dietary assessment. However, due to the different complexity level of food images and inter-class similarity of food categories, it is challenging for an image-based food recognition system to achieve high accuracy for a variety of publicly available datasets.

Exploring Food Detection using CNNs [PDF]

open access: yesEUROCAST 2017 10672 (2018) 339-347, 2017
One of the most common critical factors directly related to the cause of a chronic disease is unhealthy diet consumption. In this sense, building an automatic system for food analysis could allow a better understanding of the nutritional information with respect to the food eaten and thus it could help in taking corrective actions in order to consume a

Targeting rapid TKI‐induced AXL upregulation overcomes adaptive ERK reactivation and exerts antileukemic effects in FLT3/ITD acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptive ERK reactivation hinders FLT3 tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment in FLT3/ITD acute myeloid leukemia. Here, we report that FLT3 TKI treatment rapidly induces AXL expression and upregulation that is temporally associated with the adaptive ERK reactivation.

Playing with Food: Learning Food Item Representations through Interactive Exploration [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
A key challenge in robotic food manipulation is modeling the material properties of diverse and deformable food items. We propose using a multimodal sensory approach to interact and play with food that facilitates the ability to distinguish these properties across food items.

Combined spatially resolved metabolomics and spatial transcriptomics reveal the mechanism of RACK1‐mediated fatty acid synthesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors analyzed the spatial distributions of gene and metabolite profiles in cervical cancer through spatial transcriptomic and spatially resolved metabolomic techniques. Pivotal genes and metabolites within these cases were then identified and validated.

Application of Clustering Analysis for Investigation of Food Accessibility [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Access to food assistance programs such as food pantries and food banks needs focus in order to mitigate food insecurity. Accessibility to the food assistance programs is impacted by demographics of the population and geography of the location. It hence becomes imperative to define and identify food assistance deserts (Under-served areas) within a ...

GMM Clustering for In-depth Food Accessibility Pattern Exploration and Prediction Model of Food Demand Behavior [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Understanding the dynamics of food banks' demand from food insecurity is essential in optimizing operational costs and equitable distribution of food, especially when demand is uncertain. Hence, Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) clustering is selected to extract patterns.

Integrative systems‐level analysis reveals a contextual crosstalk between hypoxia and global metabolism in human breast tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast tumor samples scored for metabolic deregulation (M1 to M3) were given a hypoxia score (HS). The highest HS occurred in patients with strongest metabolic deregulation (M3), supporting tumor aggressiveness. HS correlated with the highest number of metabolic pathways in M1. This suggests hypoxia to be an early event in metabolic deregulation.

The accumulation of myeloid‐derived suppressor cells participates in abdominal infection‐induced tumor progression through the PD‐L1/PD‐1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores how sepsis affects GC progression by creating an immunosuppressive environment. Our findings reveal that sepsis promotes immune dysregulation, enhancing tumor growth and metastasis. Targeting the PD‐1/PD‐L1 pathway with monoclonal antibodies shows potential for restoring immune function and improving outcomes in cancer patients ...

The PTTG1/VASP axis promotes oral squamous cell carcinoma metastasis by modulating focal adhesion and actin filaments

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
VASP was found to be overexpressed in metastatic oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues. Notably, PTTG1‐ and VASP‐deficient OSCC cells demonstrated suppressed metastatic properties by disrupting the interaction between the cytoskeleton and focal adhesion (FAs) in the filopodia region.
