Characteristic features of kynurenine aminotransferase allosterically regulated by (alpha)-ketoglutarate in cooperation with kynurenine. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Kynurenine aminotransferase from Pyrococcus horikoshii OT3 (PhKAT), which is a homodimeric protein, catalyzes the conversion of kynurenine (KYN) to kynurenic acid (KYNA).

Stabilized Cellulase in Chitosan–Polyvinyl Alcohol Biopolymer Beads for Sustainable Enzymatic Deinking of Recycled Paper

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2026.
A stable and reusable biocatalyst, cellulase@Cs/PVA/Ga, is engineered by immobilizing cellulase onto glutaraldehyde‐activated chitosan (Cs) and coating it with polyvinyl alcohol. This composite system enhances enzymatic stability and efficiency for the sustainable deinking of recycled newspaper, offering a green alternative to harsh chemical treatments.

Exploring the impact of microbial dysbiosis on ovarian cancer and the therapeutic potential of probiotics

open access: yesVIEW, Volume 7, Issue 2, April 2026.
Ovarian cancer has been linked to the microbiome as a potential environmental contributor, but how this association relates to tumor progression remains unclear. By comparing tumor and nontumor tissues, we identified a severity‐associated microbial and metabolic signature and showed that probiotics can partially restore immune balance and slow tumor ...

Synthesis of Peptides, Peptide Nucleic Acid Components, and Other Biogenic Compounds From a Three‐Component Prebiotic Mixture

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 9, 2 March 2026.
High‐energy proton irradiation of a formamide–diaminomaleonitrile–glycine system in the presence of meteorites produces a broad spectrum of biogenic compounds, including nucleobases, nucleosides, peptides, and nucleobase–peptide conjugates, highlighting a chemically plausible prebiotic network.

Betaine and Choline Improve Lipid Homeostasis in Obesity by Participation in Mitochondrial Oxidative Demethylation

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2018
We investigated the metabolic effects of betaine (Bet) supplementation on CTP:phosphoethanolamine cytidylyltransferase/Pcyt2 heterozygous mice (HET). HET received either no treatment or were allowed access to 1% Bet supplemented water for 8 weeks.

Data‐Driven Printability Modeling of Hydrogels for Precise Direct Ink Writing Based on Rheological Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 15, 13 March 2026.
A predictive model for 3D printability is developed by integrating rheological analysis, including the Large Amplitude Oscillatory Shear (LAOS) test, with machine learning. With prediction errors under 10%, the model shows that post‐extrusion recovery controls horizontal printability, while high‐strain‐rate nozzle flow dictates vertical printability ...

Arabinose and protocatechuate catabolism genes are important for growth of Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar viciae in the pea rhizosphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background and aims: To form nitrogen-fixing nodules on pea roots, Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar viciae must be competitive in the rhizosphere. Our aim was to identify genes important for rhizosphere fitness.

Biohybrid Tendons Enhance the Power‐to‐Weight Ratio and Modularity of Muscle‐Powered Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 15, 13 March 2026.
Biohybrid robots powered by skeletal muscle actuators are capable of dynamically adapting to environmental cues. This study takes inspiration from native muscle–tendon architecture by leveraging tough hydrogels as synthetic tendons for muscle actuators to enhance the power‐to‐weight ratio and modularity of biohybrid machines.

Identification of a plasma signature of psychotic disorder in children and adolescents from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) cohort [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The identification of an early biomarker of psychotic disorder is important as early treatment is associated with improved patient outcome. Metabolomic and lipidomic approaches in combination with multivariate statistical analysis were applied to ...
