Evaluation of the effect of flaxseed oil and docosahexaenoic acid on hematological and oxidative stress markers of female Wistar rats with 7, 12‐dimethylbenz[a]anthracene‐induced breast cancer

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
DHA and flaxseed oil reduce tumor sizes, superoxide dismutase activity, malondialdehyde level and increase white blood cells, platelets, serum protein level, glutathione peroxidase, nitric oxide, catalase activities in DMBA‐induced breast cancer in Wistar rats compared to the negative control.

Gamma (γ) tocopherol upregulates peroxisome proliferator activated receptor (PPAR) gamma (γ) expression in SW 480 human colon cancer cell lines

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2003
Background Tocopherols are lipid soluble antioxidants that exist as eight structurally different isoforms. The intake of γ-tocopherol is higher than α-tocopherol in the average US diet.

Effects of oil and natural or synthetic vitamin E on ruminal and milk fatty acid profiles in cows receiving a high-starch diet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Among trans fatty acids, trans-10,cis-12 CLA has negative effects on cow milk fat production and can affect human health. In high-yielding dairy cows, a shift from the trans-11 to the trans-10 pathway of biohydrogenation (BH) can occur in the rumen of ...

Effect of oxidized fish oil and α-tocopherol on growth, antioxidation status, serum immune enzyme activity and resistance toAeromonas hydrophilachallenge of Chinese mitten crabEriocheir sinensis

open access: yes, 2015
The impact of dietary α-tocopherol on juvenile Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis was experimentally evaluated in a 10-week study. Crab were fed with nine diets including three levels of α-tocopherol (0, 100 and 300 mg kg−1 diet) and three levels of ...

Bajra‐based functional laddu—Standardization, nutritional profiling, molecular characterization

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract The bajra laddu experimental formulations consisted of composite flour containing varying proportions of bajra flour and gram flours viz, T0‐0:100, T1‐25:75, T2‐50:50, T3‐75:25, and T4‐100:0, respectively. The sensory acceptability of the standardized product was assessed by semitrained panelists using a nine‐point hedonic scale, which ...

Studies of the metabolism of α-tocopherol stereoisomers in rats using [5-methyl-14C]SRR- and RRR-α-tocopherol

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2000
: We investigated the distribution and metabolism of SRR-α-tocopherol (SRR-α-Toc), synthetic α-Toc compared with RRR-α-Toc, in rats after a single oral administration of 2 mg (20 μCi) SRR- and RRR-α-[5-methyl-14C]Toc.

Recent Perspectives on Phytochemical Profile, Pharmacological Activities, and Industrial Applications of Guava (Psidium guajava)

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Psidium guajava leaves contain potent bioactive compounds like quercetin, myricetin, and triterpenoids that show antioxidant, antidiabetic, anti‐inflammatory, and anticancer effects. They act by modulating NF‐κB, PPARγ, and α‐glucosidase and by inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest.
