Valorization of fruit pits from Prunus laurocerasus and Prunus cerasifera as agro‐food byproducts: Bioactive properties and safety assessment for potential food additive applications

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Food additives are widely used to extend the shelf life of foods and maintain their quality. In this study, the potential of Prunus laurocerasus and Prunus cerasifera fruit pits (endocarp and seed) as food additives was investigated in terms of cytotoxicity, antigenotoxicity, antioxidant activity, enzymatic anti‐browning, and urease

Protection of Astaxanthin in Astaxanthin Nanodispersions Using Additional Antioxidants

open access: yesMolecules, 2013
The protective effects of α-tocopherol and ascorbic acid on astaxanthin in astaxanthin nanodispersions produced via a solvent-diffusion technique and stabilized by a three-component stabilizer system, were studied either individually or in combination by

Activating Paper Applying Gelatin, Starch and Chitosan Coatings Loaded With O/W Emulsions Encapsulating Rutin, Carvacrol and α‐Tocopherol

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, EarlyView.
Emulsion type governed the microstructure and functionality of papers coated with biopolymers matrix loaded with hydrophobic bioactives encapsulated into O/W emulsions. Emulsified systems improved UV–Vis barrier and antioxidant activity, whereas gelatin coatings with conventional or Pickering emulsions provided the greatest mechanical reinforcement ...

Structural Profiling of Lipid Nanoparticles at Sub‐10 nm Resolution via AF4 Coupled Online to SAXS and SANS

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Dilution‐controlled AF4 coupled with SAXS and, for the first time, SANS enables high‐resolution characterization of non‐spherical lipid nanoparticles. Enhanced scattering contrast and D2O‐based measurements resolve particle features down to ∼5 nm and reveal shape distributions.

Effect of alpha-tocopherol on tissue transglutaminase and reversibility of thioacetamide-induced liver fibrosis in rats [Alfa-tokoferol'ün doku transglutaminazlar üzerine etkisi ve sıçanda tiyoasetamid uyarımlı geridönüşümlü karaciğer fibrozu] [PDF]

open access: yesTürk Biyokimya Dergisi, 2006
Both experimental and clinical studies have suggested the association between the deposition and stabilization of the extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, and the development of liver fibrosis.

Processing Stabilization of Polyolefin Recyclates Using Alditols in Combination With α‐Tocopherol: A Sustainable Alternative to Phosphites

open access: yesJournal of Vinyl and Additive Technology, EarlyView.
A novel bio‐based stabilizer system significantly improves the quality of polyolefin recyclates during multiple recycling cycles. ABSTRACT This study introduces a novel bio‐based stabilizer system for polyolefin recyclates that combines alditols with small amounts of α‐tocopherol as a sustainable alternative to conventional phosphite additives. The aim

Neoroprotective effects of tocotrienol-rich fraction and α-tocopherol of vitamin E against glutamate toxicity on astrocyte-neuronal mono-culture and co-culture systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Elevated concentration of glutamate, also known as glutamate neurotoxicity, is the major contributor to pathological cell death in nervous system. It has been suggested to play a key role in neurodegenerative diseases.
