Increased Binding of [18F]Nifene, a PET Imaging Probe for α4β2* Nicotinic Acetylcholinergic Receptors in Hippocampus–Subiculum of Postmortem Human Parkinson's Disease Brain

open access: yesSynapse, Volume 80, Issue 5, September 2026.
[18F]Nifene, a PET imaging probe for α4β2* nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, was used to discretely measure changes in hippocampus (HP) and subiculum (SUB) of postmortem Parkinson's disease (PD) cases compared to cognitively normal (CN) cases. Significant increased [18F]nifene binding in PD was observed.

Characterizing the binding of TC-5619 and encenicline on the alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor using PET imaging in the pig

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroimaging
The alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7-nAChR) has has long been considered a promising therapeutic target for addressing cognitive impairments associated with a spectrum of neurological and psychiatric disorders, including Alzheimer's disease ...

Deficiency of α7 Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Attenuates Bleomycin-Induced Lung Fibrosis in Mice

open access: yesMolecular Medicine, 2017
α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7 nAChR, coded by Chrna7) is indispensable in dampening proinflammatory responses. However, whether α7 nAChR plays a role in regulating bleomycin (BLM)-induced lung fibrosis is less investigated.

Suppression of neuroinflammation by an allosteric agonist and positive allosteric modulator of the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor GAT107

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2021
Background The α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7 nAChR) negatively regulates the synthesis and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines by immune cells.

Topical Donepezil for Cholinergic Modulation in Chronic Wound Repair

open access: yesWound Repair and Regeneration, Volume 34, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT Chronic wounds result from combined defects in vascular perfusion, inflammatory resolution, and epithelial repair. The skin's non‐neuronal cholinergic system (NNCS), formed by keratinocytes, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and immune cells that synthesise and respond to acetylcholine (ACh), helps coordinate these processes through muscarinic ...

B-973, a Novel α7 nAChR Ago-PAM: Racemic and Asymmetric Synthesis, Electrophysiological Studies, and in Vivo Evaluation. [PDF]

open access: yesACS Med Chem Lett, 2018
We report here the total synthesis of B-973 (five steps), a recently identified α7 nAChR ago-PAM, its enantiomeric resolution, and its electrophysiological characterization in Xenopus oocytes to identify (−)-B-973B as the bioactive enantiomer.

Hypothalamic Control of Liver Health and Disease: From Circuits to Pathophysiology and Therapies

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 47, 24 August 2026.
This review delineates the hypothalamic circuits that control liver homeostasis via autonomic and neuroendocrine pathways. Dysregulation of this hypothalamus–liver axis drives disease progression across a spectrum including steatotic liver disease, liver inflammation and injury, fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

The amino terminal domain of the human α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunit leads to the functional expression of human/insect receptors

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 13, Page 3517-3537, July 2026.
Human α7 receptors have been characterised in terms of pharmacological properties. Insertion of the N‐terminal domain of the human α7 subunit leads to honeybee and cockroach chimeric receptors activated by ACh and inhibited by α‐Bgt. Insertion of the human cys‐loop leads to cockroach chimeric receptors modulated by PNU.

Data_Sheet_1_SLURP-1 Controls Growth and Migration of Lung Adenocarcinoma Cells, Forming a Complex With α7-nAChR and PDGFR/EGFR Heterodimer.docx

open access: yes, 2021
Secreted Ly6/uPAR-related protein 1 (SLURP-1) is a secreted Ly6/uPAR protein that negatively modulates the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor of α7 type (α7-nAChR), participating in control of cancer cell growth.

SLURP2 Enlarges Adipocytes and Induces IL‐23‐Producing Macrophages in Murine Dermal Adipose Tissue

open access: yesExperimental Dermatology, Volume 35, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Dermal adipocytes have unique features different from visceral and subcutaneous adipocytes. Their cyclic remodelling is coupled with hair follicle (HF) cycling: expansion in the anagen and reduction in the catagen stages. Secreted Ly6/uPAR related protein 2 (SLURP2) is a non‐neuronal transmitter and a ligand of both nicotinic and muscarinic ...
