A tight coupling between β\u3csub\u3e2\u3c/sub\u3eY97 and β\u3csub\u3e2\u3c/sub\u3eF200 of the GABA\u3csub\u3eA\u3c/sub\u3e receptor mediates GABA binding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The GABAA receptor is an oligopentameric chloride channel that is activated via conformation changes induced upon the binding of the endogenous ligand, GABA, to the extracellular inter-subunit interfaces. Although dozens of amino acid residues at the α/β

Marinomonas brasilensis sp. nov., isolated from the coral Mussismilia hispida, and reclassification of Marinomonas basaltis as a later heterotypic synonym of Marinomonas communis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A Gram-negative, aerobic bacterium, designated strain R-40503(T), was isolated from mucus of the reef-builder coral Mussismilia hispida, located in the Sao Sebastiao Channel, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The Microbiota Shapes Central Nervous System Myelination in Early Life

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Gut microbiota shapes brain development by regulating myelination and glial cell maturation in early life. Using germ‐free (GF) mice and zebrafish, this study reveals sex‐ and age‐dependent effects on myelin growth, integrity, and related gene expression.

2R,3R-Butanediol, a Bacterial Volatile Produced by Pseudomonas chlororaphis O6, Is Involved in Induction of Systemic Tolerance to Drought in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2008
Root colonization of plants with certain rhizobacteria, such as Pseudomonas chlororaphis O6, induces tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Tolerance to drought was correlated with reduced water loss in P.

Uncovering the Lipid Interface in Neurotransmission: Single Molecule Measurements of Neurotransmitters Interacting with Membranes Reveal Species Dependent Membrane Binding

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using single‐molecule whispering gallery mode sensors, neurotransmitter‐specific membrane binding signatures are measured that reveal intrinsically distinct interaction kinetics and orientations on a lipid membrane. Abstract Neurotransmitters (NTs) have traditionally been understood to act via aqueous‐phase receptor binding, but growing evidence ...

Sustainable Management of Bacterial Leaf Spot in Bell Pepper by Biological and Chemical Resistance Inducers

open access: yesAgriculture
Bacterial leaf spot, particularly in chili peppers, is major concern worldwide, particularly in chili peppers. Enhancing pepper resistance to bacterial leaf spot addresses a key agricultural challenge while minimizing chemical usage.

Systemic acquired resistance inducing chemicals mitigate black scurf disease in potato by activating defense-related enzymes [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
The potato, being an underground vegetable crop, faces consistent threats from soil- and tuber-borne fungal and bacterial pathogens. Black scurf and stem canker disease caused by the fungal pathogen Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn is a critical global concern in

Aliphatic/aromatic amino acid pairings for polyamide recognition in the minor groove of DNA [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Selective placement of an aliphatic β-alanine (β) residue paired side-by-side with either a pyrrole (Py) or imidazole (Im) aromatic amino acid is found to compensate for sequence composition effects for recognition of the minor groove of DNA by hairpin ...

Cortical Somatostatin Neurons Regulate Seizure Susceptibility via MINAR1/Gαs–cAMP Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study identifies MINAR1 as a novel regulator of cortical interneuron excitability and seizure susceptibility. MINAR1 is preferentially expressed in SST+ interneurons. Genetic ablation of MINAR1 leads to seizure hypersensitivity, reduced SST+ neuron excitability, and impaired Gαs–cAMP signaling, disrupting the E/I balance.

Electrically Evoked Compound Action Potentials in Spinal Cord Stimulation: Implications for Preclinical Research Models

open access: yesNeuromodulation: Technology at the Neural Interface, EarlyView., 2021
Abstract Objectives The study aimed to assess the feasibility of recording electrically evoked compound action potentials (ECAPs) from the rat spinal cord. To achieve this, we characterized electrophysiological responses of dorsal column (DC) axons from electrical stimulation and quantified the relationship between ECAP and motor thresholds (ECAPTs and
