Application of the thermostable β-galactosidase, BgaB, from Geobacillus stearothermophilus as a versatile reporter under anaerobic and aerobic conditions:Alternative title; Application of the thermostable beta-galactosidase, BgaB, from Geobacillus stearothermophilus as a versatile reporter under anaerobic and aerobic conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Use of thermophilic organisms has a range of advantages, but the significant lack of engineering tools limits their applications. Here we show that β-galactosidase from Geobacillus stearothermophilus (BgaB) can be applicable in a range of conditions ...

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Natural Products as Geroprotective Modulators in Diabetic Nephropathy: A Mechanistic Framework Integrating Aging Hallmarks and the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 Axis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Natural products target the aging kidney in diabetic nephropathy by restoring the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 axis, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular senescence while enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.

The C-terminal lectin-like domain modulates the substrate specificity and transglycosylation activity of rice β-galactosidase1 (OsBGal1) [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
Background β-galactosidases (EC 3.2.1.23) are glycosidases that release nonreducing terminal β-d-galactosyl residues from saccharides or glycosides.

Biocatalytic approaches using lactulose: end product compared with substrate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Lactulose is a lactose-based carbohydrate with well-known prebiotic effect and recognized medical applications. Currently, the commercially available lactulose is chemically synthesized. Nevertheless, the process leads to low yields and high levels of by-

Screening of fungal sources of -galactosidase with potential for the synthesis of prebiotics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Book of Abstracts of CEB Annual Meeting 2017[Excerpt] β-Galactosidases (EC 3.2.1.23), also known as lactases, are a family of enzymes able to catalyse two different types of reactions, namely hydrolysis and transgalactosylation.

Hierarchically Engineered Multi‐Enzyme Nanoreactors for in vitro Drug Biosynthesis and Pathway Transplantation Into Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchically structured metal–organic framework (eMIL) is shown to host the complete six‐enzyme biosynthesis pathway for the anti‐cancer pigment violacein, reshaping reaction dynamics and multiplying in vitro yields. eMIL nanoreactors deliver this reconstituted bacterial multi‐protein system into mammalian cells, where cell‐derived substrates and ...
