Roles of PknB and CslA in Cell Wall Morphogenesis of Streptomyces

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
Streptomyces grow by extending hyphal tips, a process regulated by polarisome complexes anchored by DivIVA. Using a genetic screen based on toxic DivIVA overproduction, we identified the kinase PknB as a key regulator of cell envelope construction.

Conventional Versus Organic Wheat Production: Implications on Breeding and the Supply Chain

open access: yesPlant Breeding, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The majority of the wheat produced worldwide originates from conventional (CON) farming systems. However, EU policies aim to tremendously expand the area dedicated to organic (ORG) farming by 2030, which could affect stakeholders in the wheat supply chain and wheat breeding strategies.

The isolation, bioactivity, and role of β-glucans in health: A review.

open access: yes
β-glucans are bioactive polysaccharides with promising health benefits. These compounds are naturally present in plant-based sources, such as barley and oats, and microorganism sources, including bacteria, fungi, and yeast.

Polar Lipid and Fatty Acid Profiles of Oat Groats Substantially Influenced by Field Management: A Comparison of Cultivars, Sowing Times and Fertilizer Composition

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The polar lipids in oat grains are crucial due to their biological functions, nutritional quality, potential use in food flavour and processing, the protection they provide against biotic and abiotic stresses, and their ability to act as cellular signalling molecules.

Extracting (1,3/1,6)-β-Glucans from Saccharomyces cerevisiae: A Fungal Immunotherapeutic

open access: yes, 2016
The goal of this research was the development of a method to extract pure (1,3/1,6)-β-glucans from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. These β-glucans are of pharmaceutical importance because an animal’s immune system can recognize glucan molecules, and these ...

Engineered surface strategies to manage dental implant‐related infections

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract When exposed to the oral environment, dental implants, like natural surfaces, become substrates for microbial adhesion and accumulation, often leading to implant‐related infections—one of the main causes of implant failure. These failures impose significant costs on patients, clinicians, and healthcare systems.
