Increasing Antioxidant Activity in Food Waste Extracts by β-Glucosidase
Research background. Food by-products such as onion peels and olive leaves are rich in bioactive compounds applicable as natural and low-cost sources of antioxidants. Still, these compounds mainly exist in glycosylated form.

Using field‐based holo‐omics, we demonstrate that developmental shifts in sorghum leaf metabolomes drive a noncanonical fungal succession from stress tolerators (S) through ruderals (R) to competitors (C). Antifungal metabolites in young leaves select for S strategists with expanded genomes, transient maltose pulses during flowering favor fast‐growing ...

Characterization of β-glucosidases from Meridianimaribacter sp. CL38
The production of second-generation biofuel requires a huge amount of freshwater. It is estimated that at least three gal of freshwater is used to produce one gal of biofuel.

Cellulase immobilization on superparamagnetic nanoparticles for reuse in cellulosic biomass conversion [PDF]
Current cellulosic biomass hydrolysis is based on the one-time use of cellulases. Cellulases immobilized on magnetic nanocarriers offer the advantages of magnetic separation and repeated use for continuous hydrolysis. Most immobilization methods focus on

Selection and study of mutants ofDekkera intermediaandCandida wickerhamiiderepressed for β-glucosidase production [PDF]
Mutants of Candida wickerhamii and Dekkera intermedia, derepressed for β-glucosidase biosynthesis, were isolated. These mutants were also shown to hyperproduce this enzyme. In anaerobic culture, the C. wickerhamii mutant still hyperproduced β-glucosidase and was derepressed. Glucose-cellobiose anaerobic fermentation by this strain was thus improved. On
