An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

The role of intrinsic efficacy in determining response to a β2-agonist in acute severe asthma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
SummaryBackgroundCurrent guidelines recommend repeated doses of albuterol for the emergency treatment of acute asthma. However, approximately one-third of patients show little or no initial response to this partial β2-agonist.MethodsWe conducted a ...

Smaller is better: nanobodies meet NMR

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nanobodies are single‐domain antigen‐binding fragments derived from camelid heavy chain antibodies. Their small size, high stability, and exceptional specificity make nanobodies uniquely useful probes for NMR studies of protein dynamics, transient conformational states, and protein–protein interactions.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Role of Masseter Muscle β2-Adrenergic Signaling in Regulation of Muscle Activity, Myosin Heavy Chain Transition, and Hypertrophy

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2013
Chronic administration of clenbuterol (CB), a lipophilic β2-adrenoceptor (β2-AR) agonist, induces skeletal muscle hypertrophy and slow-to-fast fiber–type transitions in mammalian species, but the mechanism and pathophysiological roles of these changes ...

Cardiac physiologic regulation of sub-type specific adrenergic receptors in transgenic mice overexpressing β1- and β2-adrenergic receptors [PDF]

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Emergency Medicine, 2016
Objective Combination of β1-adrenergic receptor (AR) blockade and β2-AR activation might be a potential novel therapy for treating heart failure. However, use of β-AR agonists and/or antagonists in the clinical setting is controversial because of the ...

L-type calcium channel agonist induces correlated depolarizations in mice lacking the β2 subunit nAChRs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Retinal waves are mediated in part by activation of nicotinic receptors containing the β2 subunit. Mice deficient in β2 containing nAChRs have maintained firing of action potentials but do not support correlated waves.

Modulation of miR‐23b Wnt/β‐catenin Axis Strengthens Endothelial Barrier Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Early blood‐brain barrier (BBB) disruption contributes to stroke and CNS disease pathology. miR‐23b was identified as a regulator of BBB integrity in brain endothelial cells. Inhibition of miR‐23b enhanced barrier‐associated properties, promoted repair‐related signaling, and reduced BBB leakage in experimental stroke models, supporting further ...

Pembrolizumab-associated bronchiolitis in an elderly lung cancer patient required the treatment with an inhaled corticosteroid, erythromycin and bronchodilators

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine Case Reports, 2019
Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been used to treat lung cancer. Several types of ICI-related interstitial lung diseases have been reported, including organizing pneumonia, non-specific interstitial pneumonia, and diffuse alveolar damage. However,

Sleep-related hypermotor epilepsy associated mutations uncover important kinetic roles of α4β2- nicotinic acetylcholine receptor intracellular structures.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Sleep-related hypermotor epilepsy (SHE) is a group of seizure disorders prominently associated with mutations in nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR). The most prevalent central nervous system nAChR subtype contains α4 and β2 subunits, in two ratios.
