Fossil image identification using deep learning ensembles of data augmented multiviews

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 12, Page 3020-3034, December 2023., 2023
Abstract Identification of fossil species is crucial to evolutionary studies. Recent advances from deep learning have shown promising prospects in fossil image identification. However, the quantity and quality of labelled fossil images are often limited due to fossil preservation, conditioned sampling and expensive and inconsistent label annotation by ...

Fragmentation effects on an endangered species across a gradient from the interior to edge of its range

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 37, Issue 5, October 2023., 2023
Abstract Understanding how habitat fragmentation affects individual species is complicated by challenges associated with quantifying species‐specific habitat and spatial variability in fragmentation effects within a species’ range. We aggregated a 29‐year breeding survey data set for the endangered marbled murrelet (Brachyramphus marmoratus) from >42 ...

Conserving urban tropical biodiversity by connecting networks of green patches Memulihara biodiversiti tropika bandar dengan menghubungkan rangkaian tompok kawasan hijau

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 2, Issue 2, Page 80-94, June 2023., 2023
The objective of this study is to characterise ecological connectivity for mammals and identify important patches and linkages for connecting urban green spaces for Greater Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Our results demonstrate the potential for Southeast Asian megacities to support biodiversity in the urban context, and the potential for a different kind of ...

Nailfold capillaroscopy and deep learning in diabetes

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, Volume 15, Issue 2, Page 145-151, February 2023., 2023
Highlights Nailfold capillary images were obtained by performing nailfold video capillaroscopy in 120 adult patients with and without diabetes. Over 5000 photographs were analyzed using machine‐learning approaches, and these models were clearly able to distinguish people based on diabetes status.

How to address data privacy concerns when using social media data in conservation science

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 35, Issue 2, Page 437-446, April 2021., 2021
Abstract Social media data are being increasingly used in conservation science to study human–nature interactions. User‐generated content, such as images, video, text, and audio, and the associated metadata can be used to assess such interactions. A number of social media platforms provide free access to user‐generated social media content.

open access: yesDianci bileiqi, 2021

Applying deep learning to right whale photo identification

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 33, Issue 3, Page 676-684, June 2019., 2019
Abstract Photo identification is an important tool for estimating abundance and monitoring population trends over time. However, manually matching photographs to known individuals is time‐consuming. Motivated by recent developments in image recognition, we hosted a data science challenge on the crowdsourcing platform Kaggle to automate the ...

International clinical practice recommendations on the definition, diagnosis, assessment, intervention, and psychosocial aspects of developmental coordination disorder – Chinese (Mandarin) translation

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, Volume 61, Issue 3, Page E1-E35, March 2019., 2019
