ABSTRACT Most research into the relationships of linguistic complexity and accuracy to functional adequacy has focused on either spoken or written mode. The current study extended previous studies by investigating these associations across both modalities and how the nature of these relationships was influenced by learners’ L2 proficiency and task type.

ABSTRACT This paper examines the features of metadiscourse across different teacher moves in university linguistics classroom discourse and the teaching strategies reflected in its use. The results reveal that teachers employ diverse metadiscourse during classroom interactions to support student reasoning.

ABSTRACT This study examines how attainment pairing (high‐high versus high‐low versus low‐low attainment) impacts English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learner engagement during technology‐enhanced cooperative writing tasks.
