Nutritional Regulation of Hepatic Heme Biosynthesis and Porphyria through PGC-1α [PDF]
Inducible hepatic porphyrias are inherited genetic disorders of enzymes of heme biosynthesis. The main clinical manifestations are acute attacks of neuropsychiatric symptoms frequently precipitated by drugs, hormones, or fasting, associated with ...

Enhancing Muscle Quality: Exploring Leucine and Whey Protein in Sarcopenic Individuals
ABSTRACT Background Sarcopenia is characterised by a decline in the skeletal muscle mass with increasing age. This poses many challenges to the health and independence of older individuals. New and emerging studies have focused on supplementing leucine‐enriched whey protein and resistance training in older adults to mitigate the effects of sarcopenia ...

Field Evidence of Endogenous Vitamin D Synthesis in Atlantic Salmon Induced by Natural Sunlight
Fish are believed not to synthesize vitamin D through UV exposure but to meet their requirements from dietary sources. The high vitamin D levels found in many fish species are thought to originate from UV‐induced synthesis in plankton, with vitamin D subsequently accumulating through the aquatic food chain.

PGC-1a in muscle links metabolism to inflammation [PDF]
1. In higher eukaryotes, metabolism and immunity are tightly coupled. However, whereas in evolutionary terms, a compromised immune response due to undernourishment has been the predominant problem, the inflammatory response to obesity and other life ...

The infusion of calcium and vitamin D3 into pumpkin slices was more efficient and faster with the use of vacuum impregnation pre‐treatment compared to immersion. The incorporation of calcium and vitamin D3 into fruit slices enhanced the texture and nutritional value of pumpkin dessert, while the use of calcium oxide did not introduce any unpleasant ...

Domestic fish for more versatile and safer consumption EU‐fish IV
Abstract Fish is an important part of nutrition and well‐being. The challenge of Finnish wild fish is contaminants which accumulate in some species in higher concentrations, partially limit the usability of the fish in the food/feed market and weaken the assessment of the state of the marine environment.

Osteoporosis and bone health in pediatric patients with epidermolysis bullosa: A scoping review
Abstract Nutritional compromise, low levels of vitamin D, chronic inflammation, abnormal growth, and physical inactivity affect bone metabolism and compromise long‐term bone health in individuals with epidermolysis bullosa (EB). The result is a high risk for osteopenia, osteoporosis, and pathologic fractures, but this important consequence of EB has ...
