24R,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 increases bone mass in vivo

Osteoporosis International, 1993
Reviewing the results obtained in this series of experiments we can conclude firstly that 24R,25(OH)2D3 is able to increase bone volume when administered exogenously. This action in increasing the bone volume in normal vitamin-D-replete animals may represent the anabolic action of the vitamin D-endocrine system on bone in vivo.

Biological evaluation of epoxy analogs of 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3

Steroids, 1995
The biological activity of 16-epoxy side-chain analogs of 1 alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, (1 alpha,25(OH)2D3) was evaluated in vitro and in vivo. Compared to 1 alpha,25(0H)2D3, all analogs had lower affinities for the pig duodenal vitamin D receptor and also for the human serum vitamin D binding protein.

1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 corrects osteomalacia in hypoparathyroidism and pseudohypoparathyroidism

Acta Endocrinologica, 1983
Abstract. Deficiency of circulating 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1α,25(OH)2D) regularly occurs in hypoparathyroidism (HP) and pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP). Osteomalacia is occasionally found in the two diseases. Two patients, one with HP and the other with PHP, both with symptomatic and biopsy-proven osteomalacia, were studied before and after treatment

Excretion of metabolites of 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 in rat bile

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1980
Abstract Bile is the major excretory route for 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 and its metabolites. The amount of radioactivity as a percentage of the total dose found in either urine or combined feces and intestinal contents of bile duct-cannulated rats does not vary with the dose of 1α,25-dihydroxy-[3α-3H]vitamin D3 whereas the percentage of the dose ...

Multivariate Analysis of the Vitamin D Endocrine System: Evidence for the Essentiality of both 24R,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 and 1α,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3

1980
The secosteroid vitamin D plays an essential role in calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (Pi) homeostasis and serves as a precursor of a minimum of eight hydroxylated metabolites1. Of these the two dihydroxylated derivatives produced by the kidney, particularly 1α, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 [1,25(OH)2 D3] and 24R,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 [24,25(OH)2 D3] appear to ...

Effect of 1alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 and 24R,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 on metalloproteinase activity and cell maturation in growth plate cartilage in vivo.

Endocrine, 2001
Recent studies indicate that 1alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1alpha,25[OH]2D3) and 24R,25-dihydroxyvitamim D3 (24R,25[OH]2D3) differentially regulate proliferation, differentiation, and matrix synthesis of growth plate chondrocytes. To determine whether both metabolites play the same or different roles in vivo, we used the vitamin D-deficient rat as a ...
