Gemcitabine, Docetaxel, Melphalan, Carboplatin as Part of Sequential Cycles of High‐Dose Chemotherapy With Autologous Hematopoietic Stem‐Cell Rescue for Multiply Relapsed/Refractory Pediatric Germ Cell Tumors

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Although most malignant germ cell tumors (GCTs) are highly curable with cisplatin‐based therapy, options for patients with multiply relapsed/refractory disease remain limited. For this population, we report the first pediatric use of gemcitabine, docetaxel, melphalan, and carboplatin (GemDMC) as part of sequential cycles of high‐dose ...

25-hydroxycholesterol promotes proliferation and metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma cells by regulating ERβ/TNFRSF17 axis

open access: yesBMC Cancer
Lung adenocarcinoma is the main type of lung cancer in women. Our previous findings have evidenced that 25-hydroxycholesterol (25-HC) promotes migration and invasion of lung adenocarcinoma cells (LAC), during which LXR as a 25-HC receptor plays an ...

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Coxiella burnetii Sterol-Modifying Protein Stmp1 Regulates Cholesterol in the Intracellular Niche

open access: yesmBio, 2022
Coxiella burnetii replicates in a phagolysosome-like vacuole called the Coxiella-containing vacuole (CCV). While host cholesterol readily traffics to the CCV, cholesterol accumulation leads to CCV acidification and bacterial death.

Hund and pair-hopping signature in transport properties of degenerate nanoscale devices

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate the signature of a complete Coulomb interaction in transport properties of double-orbital nanoscale devices. We analyze the specific effects of Hund exchange and pair hopping terms, calculating in particular stability diagrams.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Absence of Nceh1 augments 25-hydroxycholesterol-induced ER stress and apoptosis in macrophages[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2014
An excess of cholesterol and/or oxysterols induces apoptosis in macrophages, contributing to the development of advanced atherosclerotic lesions. In foam cells, these sterols are stored in esterified forms, which are hydrolyzed by two enzymes: neutral ...

Effect of high temperature on the radiation shielding properties of cementitious composites containing nano- Bi2O3

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2020
In this study, the effect of various temperatures at 25, 200, 400, and 600 °C, on the mechanical and gamma ray shielding properties of heavy-weight concrete (HC) with various content of Nano Bismuth Oxide (NB) at levels of 0, 2, 4 and 6% were determined.
