Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid and growth hormone secretion: Studies in rats and dogs

open access: yes, 2000
Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, a gamma-aminobutyric acid metabolite, and baclofen, a gamma-aminobutyric acid B agonist, are endowed with a small growth hormone-releasing activity in human beings.

Production of Two- and Three-Component Polyhydroxyalkanoates by Luminous Bacteria of the Photobacterium Genus [PDF]

open access: yesЖурнал Сибирского федерального университета: Серия Биология, 2016
The study addresses the ability of luminous bacteria Photobacterium leiognathi Boisvert et al. and Photobacterium phosphoreum (Cohn) Beijerinck to synthesize polyesters of hydroxycarbon acids (polyhydroxyalkanoates, PHAs) as storage macromolecules.

Physiological media and oxygen levels modulate cancer hallmarks in cultured breast cancer cells

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
MCF7 breast cancer cells were cultured in standard conditions (18% O2 and DMEM) and physiological conditions (5% O2 and Plasmax, a medium modeled after the human plasma metabolome). A combined transcriptomic and proteomic approach was used to identify gene expression signatures at the mRNA and protein levels upstream of functional enrichment analyses ...

Maternal nutrition as a key determinant of placental and developing blood–brain barrier xenobiotic protective functions

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Suboptimal maternal nutrition alters placental and developing blood–brain barrier (BBB) protective function and is associated with increased fetal brain vulnerability. In the placenta, nutritional adversity may reduce the exchange surface area and promote meta‐inflammation, compromising barrier efficiency in a model‐ and context ...

Phase diagrams in blends of poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid) with various aliphatic polyesters

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2011
Phase behavior with immiscibility, miscibility, crystalline morphology, and kinetic analysis in blends of poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid) (PHB) with aliphatic polyesters such as poly(butylene adipate) (PBA), poly(ethylene adipate) (PEA), poly(trimethylene ...

Sustainable generation of bioethanol from sugarcane wastes by Streptomyces coelicolor strain COB KF977550 isolated from a tropical estuary

open access: yesScientific African, 2021
The damaging effect and challenges associated with the use of fossil fuel is enormous and very costly. Biofuels could be obtained from plant biomass wastes which are known to be sources of environmental pollution and breeding grounds for vectors of ...

Serine Octamer Substitution Reactions With α‐Hydroxy Acids

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, Volume 40, Issue 18, 30 September 2026.
ABSTRACT Rationale The amino acid serine forms chiral magic number clusters, which can be studied using mass spectrometry (MS). Serine octamer clusters are also known to incorporate one or two nonserine monomers with serine monomers to make up the octamer.

Metabolic Assessment in Human Pluripotent Stem Cell‐Derived Cerebral Organoids Using HR‐MAS NMR Spectroscopy

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 8, August 2026.
We present a direct method for evaluating metabolism in intact hPSC‐derived cerebral organoids (COs) via HR‐MAS 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. This approach suggests that COs exhibit a metabolic profile similar to in vivo human fetal brain, with high levels of lactate and hTau, low levels of NAA, and equimolar levels of Glu and Gln.

A short synthesis of 4-amino-3-hydroxybutyric acid (GABOB) via allyl cyanide

open access: yes, 2003
4-Amino-3-hydroxybutyric acid was synthesized from allyl cyanide in four steps in an overall yield of 38%. Ultrasonically promoted epoxidation of allyl cyanide with m-chloroperoxy-benzoic acid giving oxiranylacetonitrile was used as a key ...
