4‑Benzoylamino-3-hydroxybutyric Acid, Historically First “Anomalous Racemate”: Reinvestigation

open access: yes, 2016
Chiral 4-benzoylamino-3-hydroxybutyric acid (1) was recognized in 1930 as the first example of “anomalous racemates” (correct to say, anomalous conglomerates), that is, specific addition compounds formed by different enantiomers in unequal ratio ...

Metabolic profiles of saliva in male mouse models of chronic sleep disorders induced by psychophysiological stress

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Disordered sleep is a global social problem and an established significant risk factor for psychological and metabolic diseases. We profiled non-targeted metabolites in saliva from mouse models of chronic sleep disorder (CSD).

Recreational Drug Use at a Music Festival: A Dual Approach Using Hair Biomarkers Analysis and Participant Self‐Reported Drug Use

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 18, Issue 7, Page 831-840, July 2026.
Combined self‐report and hair analysis in festival attendees (n = 249) revealed substantial discrepancies in drug use reporting, particularly for stimulants and dissociatives. This integrated approach enhances detection of poly‐drug use and provides a more reliable basis for monitoring and harm‐reduction strategies.

Biocatalytic synthesis of new copolymers from 3-hydroxybutyric acid and a carbohydrate lactone

open access: yes, 2011
Lipase-catalyzed reaction of 3-hydroxybutyric acid with d-glucono-d-lactone at 5:1 molar ratio and 80 °C yielded a mixture of moderate molecular weight linear and cyclic oligomers. The most efficient biocatalyst, Candida antarctica B lipase (Novozyme 435)

γ-Aminobutyric AcidB(GABAB)-Receptor Mediation of Different In Vivo Effects of γ-Butyrolactone

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2008
The endogenous brain constituent, γ-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), as well as its prodrug, γ-butyrolactone (GBL), have recently gained interest in the drug addiction field due to their abuse potential and fatalities caused by overdose.

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Patients With Mitochondrial Carbonic Anhydrase VA Deficiency. A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesJIMD Reports, Volume 67, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Mitochondrial carbonic anhydrase VA (CA‐VA) deficiency is a rare inherited metabolic disorder caused by biallelic variants of the CA5A gene. It presents with hyperammonemia, lactic acidosis, and ketonuria, with or without hypoglycemia. We report the long‐term follow‐up of the first two reported cases of CA‐VA deficiency: a 16‐year‐old female ...

Integrative analyses of genomic and metabolomic data reveal genetic mechanisms associated with carcass merit traits in beef cattle

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Improvement of carcass merit traits is a priority for the beef industry. Discovering DNA variants and genes associated with variation in these traits and understanding biological functions/processes underlying their associations are of paramount ...

Enhanced production of d-(−)-3-hydroxybutyric acid by recombinantEscherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2002
Wild-type bacteria including Escherichia coli normally do not produce extracellular D-(-)-3-hydroxybutyric acid (3HB). To produce extracellular chiral 3HB, a new pathway for synthesis of 3HB was constructed by simultaneous expression of genes of beta-ketothiolase (phbA), acetoacetyl-CoA reductase (phbB), phosphor-transbutyrylase (ptb) and butyrate ...

Effectiveness of Alcohol Use Disorder Pharmacotherapies by Sex: Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesDrug and Alcohol Review, Volume 45, Issue 5, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Issues Alcohol use disorder (AUD) shows sex‐related differences in prevalence, harm and treatment response. Despite growing interest in sex differences, evidence synthesis evaluating pharmacotherapy effectiveness by sex remains limited. Approach Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, PsycINFO and Cochrane were searched twice.
