The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

MEDIATION OF CHEMOTHERAPY-INDUCED APOPTOSIS BY THE LYSOSOMAL PROTEASE CATHEPSIN D [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
One of the most common hallmarks of cancer is dysregulation of cellular apoptotic processes. A comprehensive knowledge of the underlying mechanisms of the apoptotic machinery is vital for the identification of new drug targets and the development of ...

Determination of the Minimal Residual Disease Threshold in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Treated with ‘ОМЛ-17’ and ‘mОМЛ-17’ Regimens

open access: yesКлиническая онкогематология
BACKGROUND. Minimal residual disease (MRD) refers to the tumor cells detected in complete remission patients by highly sensitive methods (PCR and flow cytometry). Each treatment regimen requires the determination of MRD threshold, i.e., the leukemic cell

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Response-Adapted Strategy in the Treatment of Primary Mediastinal Large B-Cell Lymphoma: Results of a Prospective Single-Center Clinical Trial

open access: yesКлиническая онкогематология
BACKGROUND. Up to now, neither the optimal treatment regimen for primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL), nor poor/favorable prognostic factors for risk stratification at the disease onset have been found.
