Enzymatic Basis for the Oxidative Branch of Aromatic Amino Acid Fermentation Leading to p‐cresol Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In anaerobic bacteria, tyrosine serves as an electron donor in the oxidative Stickland fermentation branch, generating p‐hydroxyphenylacetate, ATP and reduced ferredoxin for decarboxylation into p‐cresol. ABSTRACT The phenolic metabolite p‐cresol is a byproduct of tyrosine fermentation by certain strictly anaerobic bacteria, including the human gut ...

Substrate‐Affinitive P‐Type Azapolycyclic Photosensitizer for Chemoselective Nitrilization Under Mild Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We developed a series of quinoxalinoquinoxaline (QQ) photosensitizers featuring high and tunable excited‐state reduction potentials (E(PC•+/PC*) = –1.76 to –2.05 V vs. SCE). Their hydrogen‐bonding interaction with carbonyl substrates enables selective single‐electron transfer events for selective nitrilization of 1° amides, offering a tunable ...

Hyperlipidemia Aggravates Alveolar Bone Loss via Periodontal Ligament Stem Cell Ferroptosis Through GSK3β Dependent Ubiquitin‐Mediated NRF2 Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid metabolic stress triggers ferroptosis in PDLSCs through the GSK3β/NRF2 pathway, thereby aggravating periodontal bone loss. Upregulated GSK3β promotes NRF2 ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation via β‐TrCP, suppressing NRF2 nuclear translocation and antioxidant target expression.

ACLY‐Driven Metabolic Reprogramming Promotes Histone Acetylation and Inflammation‐Associated Fibrosis in Chronic Kidney Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a citrate–ACLY–H3K27ac metabolic–epigenetic axis driving inflammatory gene activation and kidney fibrosis, highlighting ACLY inhibition as a potential therapeutic strategy for chronic kidney disease (CKD). ABSTRACT The mechanisms by which metabolic stress drives epigenetic dysregulation and fibrosis in chronic kidney disease (CKD ...

Studies on the Preparation of Protomycinolide IV: Enantioselective Synthesis of the C3–C9 Segment [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The C3–C9 segment, (−)-16, of the polyene macrolide antibiotic protomycinolide IV (1a) was prepared in optically pure form from commercially available methyl (S)-2-methyl-3-hydroxypropionate in 12 steps giving 17 ...

Coherent strong-field control of multiple states by a single chirped femtosecond laser pulse

open access: yes, 2011
We present a joint experimental and theoretical study on strong-field photo-ionization of sodium atoms using chirped femtosecond laser pulses. By tuning the chirp parameter, selectivity among the population in the highly excited states 5p, 6p, 7p and 5f,

Organic Thin‐Film Transistors for Neuromorphic Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Organic thin‐film transistors (OTFTs) are reviewed for neuromorphic computing applications, highlighting their power‐efficient, and biological time‐scale operation. This article surveys OFET and OECT devices, compares them with memristors and CMOS, analyzes how fabrication parameters shape spike‐based metrics, proposes standardized characterization ...

Integrated Omics Approaches to Explore a New System of Genetic Control of Dibenzothiophene Desulfurization and Aromatic Ring Cleavage by Gordonia alkanivorans Strain 135

open access: yesBiology
Dibenzothiophene (DBT) is a widespread environmental pollutant. The most common metabolic pathway for DBT degradation by Gordonia strains is the 4S pathway, which is under the control of the dsz operon.

Study of a desulfurization process to convert dibenzothiophene to 2-hydroxybiphenyl by Rhodococcus rhodochrous NRRL (B-2149) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
[Abstract] Actually, a great effort is being given to research on biodesulfurization processes, i.e., processes in which sulfur can be removed selectively from sulfur-compound moities without altering its British thermal unit.
