Indications of 5-Aminolevulinic Acid and Intraoperative MRI in Glioma Surgery: First Cases in Latin America in a Single Reference Center

open access: yesBrazilian Neurosurgery, 2018
Introduction The improvement on the extent of resection (EOR) of gliomas with the combination of 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) and intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) has been demonstrated in previous studies. We present our results with the

Chemoselective Metabolomics via a Modular Reactivity‐Encoding Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conventional LC–MS underrepresents numerous metabolites due to heterogeneous ionization efficiencies and matrix interference. Here, we introduce a modular reactivity‐encoding platform (MREP) comprising four alkyne‐tagged probes that selectively derivatize key functional groups, followed by unified click‐chemistry capture to eliminate matrix components ...

5-ALA staining of gastrointestinal cancer cells.

open access: yes, 2019
(A) FACS analysis of 5-ALA-stained gastrointestinal cancer cells. Esophageal cancer cells (TE4 and TE9), gastric cancer cells (MKN45), and pancreatic cancer cells (CFPAC, PANC-1, and PK9) were stained with 5-ALA (150 μg/mL) for 4 h and analyzed by flow ...

Subversion of Atypical Mucin Traps by a Spore‐Coat Effector Blocks Cellular Immunity in Drosophila

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
While the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium robertsii can evade insect humoral immunity, its subversion of cellular defenses is still elusive. We identify Eac1 as a spore‐coat protein essential for infecting drosophilids by targeting atypical mucins (Sgf1 and Sgf2), which can entrap spores in a gel matrix and thereby facilitate hemocyte encapsulation.

Ultrasound‐Activated Piezoelectric Neuroimmune Hydrogel Orchestrates Neurogenesis‐Macrophage Crosstalk in Diabetic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, we design an ultrasound‐activated piezoelectric hydrogel platform (AOEF@AP5+US) that reprograms neurogenesis‐macrophage crosstalk as an integrated strategy to overcome the intertwined barriers of chronic inflammation, peripheral neuropathy, and impaired regeneration in diabetic wounds.

Spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage secondary to 5-ALA-induced thrombocytopaenia in a paediatric patient: case report and literature review

open access: yes
Introduction: The primary objective of neurosurgical management of malignant gliomas is maximal safe resection of the tumour. One of the main obstacles in achieving this is the ability to accurately discriminate between tumour edges and the surrounding ...

Antifatigue Effects of 5-Aminolevulinic Acid Chronic Treatment on Mice

open access: yesLife
5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is a heme precursor involved in mitochondrial activation. A clinical study suggested that 5-ALA supplementation alleviates fatigue in healthy individuals who experience chronic physical tiredness.

Unveiling the Taxonomic Diversity and Unprecedented Biosynthetic Treasure of the Phylum Myxococcota

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Natural products remain vital sources of therapeutics, and the phylum Myxococcota constitutes an especially rich reservoir for them. Based on decades of microbiological efforts, we present 154 new Myxococcota genomes and revise taxonomy quadrupling the number of families and genera.
