5-Aminolevulinic Acid as a Novel Therapeutic for Inflammatory Bowel Disease
5-Aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is a naturally occurring nonprotein amino acid licensed as an optical imaging agent for the treatment of gliomas. In recent years, 5-ALA has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory properties through ...

Peptide‐directed nanovehicles enabling tumor‐selective ROS amplification and antitumor immunity
Cancer cells are vulnerable to oxidative stress, yet exploit immune tolerance to escape destruction. In contrast, their metabolic profile is markedly altered to support rapid proliferation, accompanied by elevated production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Biopolymer‐Based Polyelectrolyte Nanoplatforms for Targeted Photodynamic Therapy of Breast Cancer
Illustration of the synthesis of 5‐aminolevulinic acid loaded chitosan‐sericin polyelectrolyte nanoparticles (CSSN/ALA NPs) using the Flash nanocomplexation (FNC) technique and their potential in photodynamic therapy (PDT) against breast cancer (BC). Abstract Nanomedicine has reshaped healthcare, especially in targeted drug delivery systems (DDSs) and ...

Unraveling the active site cover of coproheme decarboxylase from Listeria monocytogenes
During heme biosynthesis in Gram‐positive bacteria, coproheme decarboxylase (ChdC) catalyzes the conversion of four‐propionate substrate coproheme to the two propionate product heme b. Its active site is universally covered by a flexible linking loop. This study identifies an important histidine residue, which stabilizes the loop in a ChdC homolog.

Pretreatment with 5-aminolevulinic acid mitigates heat stress of cucumber leaves
Cucumber seedlings were pretreated with 3 μM 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) followed by cultivation at normal (25/18 °C) or high (42/38 °C) day/night temperature to investigate the protective effects of ALA on heat stress in plants.
