Alleviation of Lead Stress on Sage Plant by 5-Aminolevulinic Acid (ALA)

open access: yesPlants, 2021
Oxidative stress is imparted by a varying range of environmental factors involving heavy metal stress. Thus, the mechanisms of antioxidant resistance may advance a policy to improve metal tolerance.

The effect of photodynamic therapy in head and neck cancer: A comprehensive review of in vivo models

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
This review evaluates Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) in in vivo head and neck cancer models. PDT effectively generates ROS, reducing tumor growth, cell proliferation and angiogenesis while enhancing survival and immune responses. However, methodological heterogeneity highlights the urgent need for standardized dosimetric protocols to ensure reproducibility

X-ray structure of a putative reaction intermediate of 5-aminolaevulinic acid dehydratase

open access: yes, 2003
The X-ray structure of yeast 5-aminolaevulinic acid dehydratase, in which the catalytic site of the enzyme is complexed with a putative cyclic intermediate composed of both substrate moieties, has been solved at 0.16 nm (1.6 Å) resolution.

Engineering a probiotic strain of Escherichia coli to induce the regression of colorectal cancer through production of 5‐aminolevulinic acid

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, 2021
Summary Bacterial vectors can be engineered to generate microscopic living therapeutics to produce and deliver anticancer agents. Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (Nissle 1917) is a promising candidate with probiotic properties.

A low‐cost handheld device for monitoring cutaneous photosensitivity

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
The cutaneous photosensitivity detection (CPD) device is a handheld contact‐based measurement device using 405 nm excitation and red fluorescence detection for monitoring skin phototoxicity risk after photodynamic therapy (PDT) procedures involving systemic aminolaevulinic acid (ALA) induced protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) photosensitization.

5-Aminolevulinic acid antiviral efficacy against SARS-CoV-2 omicron variant in vitro

open access: yesTropical Medicine and Health, 2022
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19) pandemic continues to pose a threat to global health. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) has spread rapidly worldwide and became dominant in many countries.

Time‐series multi‐omics analysis of micronutrient stress in Sorghum bicolor reveals iron and zinc crosstalk and regulatory network conservation

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Overlap between Fe and Zn responsive gene regulatory networks (GRNs) were found, indicative of micronutrient crosstalk, and conservation of root and leaf GRNs and genes suggests strong constraint on homeostasis networks in plants. Abstract Micronutrient stress impacts growth, biomass production, and grain yield in crops.

5-Aminolevulinic Acid Phosphate as an Immune System Enhancer Along with Vaccination Against SARS-CoV-2 Virus Infection: An Open-Label, Randomized Pilot Study

open access: yesLife
Previous studies have shown that 5-aminolevulinic acid phosphate together with sodium ferrous citrate, which is marketed as a food supplement, appears to be an important metabolic regulator in depleted T cell metabolism.

Comparative experimental study of 5-ALA and 5-ALA hexyl ester specific activity

open access: yesBiomedical Photonics, 2018
A comparative experimental study of the specific activity of drugs based on 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) and its hexyl ester (5-ALA HE) was carried out. Their ability to induce the synthesis of photoactive protoporphyrin IX in the healthy tissues of the
