Lupus-Like Syndrome Caused by 5-Aminosalicylic Acid in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1999
BACKGROUND: Although 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) preparations used to treat inflammatory bowel disease are reported to have fewer side effects than sulphasalazine, increased clinical use of these compounds has resulted in increased reports of ...

USE OF 5-AMINOSALICYLIC ACID FOR TREATMENT OF ULCERATIVE COLITIS IN DIFFERENT DOSAGE MODES

open access: yesМедицинский совет, 2017
Preparations of 5-ASA are the first line treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). Today, in the market of drugs 5-ASA available for the treatment of UC, there are many dosage forms, varying in the coating, method of delivery of active substance and dosing ...

Duration of treatment with 5-aminosalicylic acid compounds

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastroenterology, 2007
The development of 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) therapy as a life long treatment for ulcerative colitis is reviewed from its origins in the 1940s to the present day. The drug was designed to treat rheumatoid arthritis, but was found helpful in the management of nine patients with ulcerative colitis.

The Mycobacterium tuberculosis Rv0132c Gene Product Mtb‐FGD2 Can Act as an F420‐Dependent Glucose Dehydrogenase

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, Volume 94, Issue 9, Page 1610-1627, September 2026.
ABSTRACT The role of the cell envelope‐associated Rv0132c/FGD2 from Mycobacterium tuberculosis has long been a subject of debate. Importantly, FGD2 is found only in pathogenic mycobacteria, making it a potential drug target. While some suggest it functions as a glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase, others propose it acts instead as an F420‐dependent ...

Synthesis and Antibacterial Evaluation of 5-Aminosalicylic Acid Derivatives

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The anti-inflammatory scaffold 5-aminosalicylic acid, which is widely used in therapeutic applications, was chosen for the synthesis of N-[3-(hydrazinecarbonyl)-4-hydroxyphenyl]acetamide (1) to enhance its antibacterial properties.

Drug-induced eosinophilic pneumonia in a patient with Crohn's disease: diagnosis and treatment using fraction of exhaled nitric oxide

open access: yesIntestinal Research, 2017
Oral 5-aminosalicylic acid agents (mesalazine and sulfasalazine) and azathioprine are the mainstays of treatment for inflammatory bowel disease. Reports of pulmonary toxicity induced by oral 5-aminosalicylic acid agents or azathioprine in patients with ...

Beyond Glucocorticoids: The Current Landscape and Prospects for Treating Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor‐Induced Autoimmunity

open access: yesACR Open Rheumatology, Volume 8, Issue 8, August 2026.
The rapid integration of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) into standard oncology protocols has birthed a new frontier in clinical rheumatology: immune‐related adverse events (irAEs). By disrupting the programmed cell death‐1 (PD‐1)/PD‐L1 and cytotoxic T‐lymphocyte‐associated protein 4 (CTLA‐4) axes to restore antitumor T cell activity, these ...

Sulfated Cyclocarya Paliurus Polysaccharide Sorchestrates the Gut Microbiome to Mobilize a Host‐Derived 12‐HEPE Against Ulcerative Colitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 44, 7 August 2026.
A sulfated polysaccharide (SCP) from Cyclocarya paliurus alleviates ulcerative colitis by reshaping the gut microbiome. This remodeled microbiota orchestrates the upregulation of the host‐derived lipid 12‐HEPE, which directly inhibits the TLR4/NF‐κB pathway to suppress inflammation.
