Chromatin Packing Domain Engineering Through the Manipulation of Nuclear Cationic States

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Manipulation of intranuclear divalent cation concentrations rapidly and reversibly remodels chromatin packing domains in living cells. Magnesium depletion disrupts domain compaction, heterochromatin organization, and transcriptional regulation, whereas magnesium loading promotes more compact and stable domains.

The role of cGMP signalling in regulating life cycle progression of Plasmodium. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The 3'-5'-cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-dependent protein kinase (PKG) is the main mediator of cGMP signalling in the malaria parasite. This article reviews the role of PKG in Plasmodium falciparum during gametogenesis and blood stage schizont ...

The Natural Product Corramycin Acts as a DNA Gyrase Poison and Overcomes Fluoroquinolone Resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Corramycin, a myxobacterial natural product antibiotic, exhibits potent bactericidal activity against multidrug‐resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The compound hijacks bacterial transporters such as BacA and OppABCD to enter the cell and inhibits DNA synthesis through a previously unrecognized mode of DNA gyrase poisoning, locking the enzyme in an ...

How anchoring proteins shape pain

open access: yes, 2014
Cellular responsiveness to external stimuli can be altered by extracellular mediators which activate membrane receptors, in turn signalling to the intracellular space via calcium, cyclic nucleotides, membrane lipids or enzyme activity.

Human TPX2 is required for targeting Aurora-A kinase to the spindle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Aurora-A is a serine-threonine kinase implicated in the assembly and maintenance of the mitotic spindle. Here we show that human Aurora-A binds to TPX2, a prominent component of the spindle apparatus.

A Personalized Haplotype‐Resolved Near‐Gapless Genome Framework for Somatic Variant Discovery in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A patient‐specific, haplotype‐resolved genome framework improves detection and interpretation of somatic variants in hepatocellular carcinoma. Using multi‐platform sequencing, the personalized assembly resolves complex regions including centromeres and MHC/HLA loci, enhances structural variant discovery, and links regulatory alterations to allele ...

Myomegalin is a novel A-kinase anchoring protein involved in the phosphorylation of cardiac myosin binding protein C

open access: yesBMC Cell Biology, 2011
Background Cardiac contractility is regulated by dynamic phosphorylation of sarcomeric proteins by kinases such as cAMP-activated protein kinase A (PKA).

Selectivity and Regulation of A-kinase Anchoring Proteins in the Heart

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2000
Downstream regulation of the cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) pathway is mediated by anchoring proteins (AKAPs) that sequester PKA to specific subcellular locations through binding to PKA regulatory subunits (RI or RII).

Arabidopsis STN7 Kinase Provides a Link between Short- and Long-Term Photosynthetic Acclimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Flowering plants control energy allocation to their photosystems in response to light quality changes. This includes the phosphorylation and migration of light-harvesting complex II (LHCII) proteins (state transitions or short-term response) as well as ...
