The ATP binding cassette (ABC) superfamily is a large, ubiquitous and diverse group of proteins, most of which mediate transport across biological membranes. ABC transporters have been shown to function not only as ATP-dependent pumps, but also as ion channels and channel regulators.

Ectopic Expression of Poplar ABC Transporter PtoABCG36 Confers Cd Tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana
Cadmium (Cd) is one of the most toxic heavy metals for plant growth in soil. ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters play important roles in biotic and abiotic stresses. However, few ABC transporters have been characterized in poplar.

The ABCC6 transporter : what lessons can be learnt from other ATP-binding cassette transporters? [PDF]
ABC transporters represent a large family of ATP-driven transmembrane transporters involved in uni- or bidirectional transfer of a large variety of substrates.

Utilizing the LoxP-Stop-LoxP System to Control Transgenic ABC-Transporter Expression In Vitro
ABCA1 and ABCG1 are two ABC-transporters well-recognized to promote the efflux of cholesterol to apoAI and HDL, respectively. As these two ABC-transporters are critical to cholesterol metabolism, several studies have assessed the impact of ABCA1 and ...

Identification of transporter genes from the fungal endophyte Neotyphodium lolii : this thesis is presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science (MSc) in Plant Biology at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand / [PDF]
Neotyphodium lolii is an endophytic fungus that lives in the pasture grass, Lolium perenne. They share a mutualistic symbiotic relationship. N. lolii lives out its life cycle within the plant and produces secondary metabolites, including alkaloids ...

Structures and functions of mitochondrial ABC transporters [PDF]
A small number of physiologically important ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters are found in mitochondria. Most are half transporters of the B group forming homodimers and their topology suggests they function as exporters.

Energy Transduction and Alternating Access of the Mammalian ABC Transporter P-glycoprotein
ATP binding cassette (ABC) transporters of the exporter class harness the energy of ATP hydrolysis in the nucleotide-binding domains (NBDs) to power the energetically uphill efflux of substrates by a dedicated transmembrane domain (TMD).

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
