Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Preparation and Properties of Magnetically Responsive Graphene/Boron Nitride/Iron Oxide Filler Composite Epoxy Resin Materials

open access: yesNanomaterials
In this paper, magnetically responsive graphene/boron nitride/iron oxide fillers were prepared by growing iron oxide on the surface of graphene/boron nitride fillers via liquid-phase reaction.

Preparation and ablation performance of silica modified phenolic/carbon fiber composite

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng, 2023
Aimed at the problem of insufficient heat resistance and poor ablation resistance of phenolic resin (RF), and the compatibility of SiO2 particles with phenolic resin, the nano-scale SiO2/RF hybrid aerogel was prepared by the co-gel method.

Residual stress, phase, microstructure and mechanical property studies of ultrafine bainitic steel through laser shock peening [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The aimed study proposes laser shock peening without a coating of high strength ultrafine bainitic steel to mitigating the fatigue failures for automotive and structural engineering applications.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Effect of high temperature oxidation and particle erosion on the performance of C/C-SiC composites materials

open access: yesJournal of Aeronautical Materials, 2022
C/C-SiC composites was prepared by “chemical vapor infiltration + precursor impregnation pyrolysis” (CVI+PIP) combined process by needle preform laying separately with 3K twilled carbon cloth and 12K non-latitude cloth. The long-term oxidation resistance

Thickness dependent magnetotransport in ultra-thin manganite films

open access: yes, 1998
To understand the near-interface magnetism in manganites, uniform, ultra-thin films of La_{0.67}Sr_{0.33}MnO_3 were grown epitaxially on single crystal (001) LaAlO_3 and (110) NdGaO_3 substrates.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
