ROS Self‐Supply Nanoplatform Based on Fenton Catalyst for Chemodynamic and Immunotherapy: Reprogramming Cold Tumor Into Hot Tumor in Cancer Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multifunctional HA‐conjugated nanoplatform (HA‐PGMC) integrates CuO2, glucose oxidase, and mil‐100 to enable cascade catalytic ROS generation in tumor microenvironments. This self‐supplying ROS strategy induces immunogenic cell death, reprograms “cold” tumors into “hot” ones, and synergizes with PD‐L1 blockade, achieving potent chemodynamic ...

Relationship between BED and abscopal effect.

open access: yes, 2017
The probability of observing the abscopal effect (AE) of radiotherapy (RT) alone out of the irradiated tumor target is the function of the biologically effective dose (BED). NIR = not-irradiated; CI = confidence interval.

Abscopal Effects: Case Report and Emerging Opportunities [PDF]

open access: yesCureus, 2015
The abscopal effect is a phenomenon observed in the treatment of metastatic cancer where localized irradiation of a particular tumor site causes a response in a site distant to the irradiated volume. The mechanisms of the abscopal effect are speculated to be of several origins, including distant effects on p53, elaboration of inflammatory agents ...

An Activity‐Reinforced P‐Modified Single‐Atom Cu Nanozyme Potentiates IDO Blockade‐Induced Tumor Radiotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A phosphorus‐modified single‐atom copper nanozyme delivering the IDO1 inhibitor 1‐methyl‐tryptophan enhances breast cancer radioimmunotherapy by simultaneously relieving hypoxia and inducing immunogenic cell death through dual enzyme activities while blocking tryptophan metabolism to suppress regulatory T cell function.

Radiation therapy induces an abscopal effect and upregulates programmed death‐ligand 1 expression in a patient with non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, 2022
Radiation therapy (RT) activates the antigen presentation of dendritic cells and priming of cancer‐specific cytotoxic CD8+ T cells, occasionally resulting in a systemic immune response to the tumor outside of the treatment field.

Blood Cell‐Camouflaged Liquid Metal Nanoconjugates Orchestrate Treg Depletion and STING‐Amplified Photothermal Immunity for Metastatic Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Whole‐blood biomimetic engineering transforms liquid metal nanoparticles into a tripartite immunotherapeutic platform that orchestrates regulatory T‐cell depletion, photothermal‐induced immunogenic cell death, and activation of the stimulator of interferon genes pathway.

Chlorin e6-associated photodynamic therapy enhances abscopal antitumor effects via inhibition of PD-1/PD-L1 immune checkpoint

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
We hypothesized that photodynamic therapy (PDT) with Chlorin e6 (Ce6) enhances antitumor abscopal effects via inhibition of the programmed cell death-1/programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-1/PD-L1) immune checkpoint.

Challenges in synergizing radiotherapy with immunotherapy to unlock the abscopal effect in metastatic NSCLC: A systematic review

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 2023
Background: With the recent success of immunotherapy, there is a growing interest in combining radiation with immunotherapy to boost abscopal response rates.

Iron‐Tannic Acid Hydrogel Mediated Mild Photothermal Therapy Combined With Ferroptosis Enhances Anti‐Tumor Immunity in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An injectable gelatin‐based tannic acid–iron hydrogel with mild photothermal therapy could not only induce immunogenic cell death, but also elicit ferroptosis of both tumor cells and tumor‐associated macrophages, resulting in DC maturation, T‐cell infiltration and down‐regulation of ferroptosis‐sensitive M2‐type TAMs levels.
