A First Approach to Aerosol Classification Using Space-Borne Measurement Data: Machine Learning-Based Algorithm and Evaluation

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
A new method was developed for classifying aerosol types involving a machine-learning approach to the use of satellite data. An Aerosol Robotic NETwork (AERONET)-based aerosol-type dataset was used as a target variable in a random forest (RF) model.

Diminished UV radiation reduces the spread and population density of Macrosiphum euphorbiae (Thomas) [Hemiptera: Aphididae] in lettuce crops

open access: yesHorticultural Science, 2012
UV-absorbing covers reduce the incidence of injurious insect pests and viruses in protected crops. In the present study, the effect of a UV-absorbing net (Bionet) on the spatio-temporal dynamics of the potato aphid on lettuce plants was evaluated.

Absorbing sets of homogeneous subtractive algorithms [PDF]

open access: yesMonatshefte für Mathematik, 2012
We consider homogeneous multidimensional continued fraction algorithms, in particular a family of maps which was introduced by F. Schweiger. We prove his conjecture regarding the existence of an absorbing set for those maps. We also establish that their renormalisations are nonergodic which disproves another conjecture due to Schweiger.

Dissipativity of Fractional Navier–Stokes Equations with Variable Delay

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
We use classical Galerkin approximations, the generalized Aubin–Lions Lemma as well as the Bellman–Gronwall Lemma to study the asymptotical behavior of a two-dimensional fractional Navier–Stokes equation with variable delay.

Global Attractors for the Three-Dimensional Viscous Primitive Equations of Large-Scale Atmosphere in Log-Pressure Coordinate

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2013
We will first prove the existence of - and -absorbing sets for the three-dimensional primitive equations of large-scale atmosphere in log-pressure coordinate and then prove the existence of -absorbing set by the use of the elliptic regularity theory ...

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

On phi-1-absorbing prime ideals

open access: yes, 2021
In this paper, we introduce phi-1-absorbing prime ideals in commutative rings. Let R be a commutative ring with a nonzero identity 1 not equal 0 and phi : I(R) -> I(R) boolean OR {theta} be a function where I( R) is the set of all ideals of R.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Reliability modelling and analysis of a multi-state element based on a dynamic Bayesian network [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2018
This paper presents a quantitative reliability modelling and analysis method for multi-state elements based on a combination of the Markov process and a dynamic Bayesian network (DBN), taking perfect repair, imperfect repair and condition-based ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
