From Traditional Spice to Functional Ingredient: Phenolic Profile and Bioactive Properties of Sicilian Rhus coriaria L. Fruit

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 9, September 2026.
The phenolic composition of Rhus coriaria fruits has been comprehensively characterized and linked to a variety of biological activities, including antioxidant, anti‐glycation, enzyme‐inhibitory, and cytoprotective effects. These findings highlight the functional potential of Sicilian sumac as a valuable source of health‐promoting phytochemicals ...

Impact of Intermediate Wheatgrass as an Adjunct Ingredient on the Chemical Composition and Development of Aroma Compounds in Sake Brewing

open access: yesCereal Chemistry, Volume 103, Issue 5, Page 695-706, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Replacing a portion of polished rice with intermediate wheatgrass (IWG) could diversify raw materials for sake, but its effects on composition and fermentation outcomes are not well characterized. The objective of this study was to quantify how adjunct form (whole vs.

Reward Processing in Binge Eating and Harmful Drinking: A Systematic Review

open access: yesInternational Journal of Eating Disorders, Volume 59, Issue 9, Page 1897-1928, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Binge eating and harmful drinking commonly co‐occur, which worsens the physical and psychological consequences associated with either behavior alone. Reward processing alterations have been demonstrated among individuals who engage in binge eating or harmful drinking alone; however, there is limited understanding of how different ...

Species Identity Drives Geographic Variation in Leaf Traits and Palatability to a Generalist Insect Herbivore of a Common Invader

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
Introduced plants represent unique opportunities to understand how diverse phenotypic traits vary across broad geographic scales. However, clear generalizable principles about genetically based variation in key functional plant traits across geographic clines remain elusive. To address this knowledge gap, we assessed how heritable variation in knotweed

Targeted Metabolomics Reveals Tissue‐Specific Accumulation and Translocation of Bioactive Compounds in Ginger During Growth

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 5, September 2026.
Targeted UHPLC–MS/MS methods were established to quantify 32 bioactive compounds in ginger leaves, stems, and rhizomes during growth. Distinct tissue‐specific accumulation and translocation patterns were observed, and aminoacyl‐tRNA biosynthesis was identified as the most active pathway in ginger development.
