Accretion in giant planet circumplanetary disks

open access: yes, 2014
During the final growth phase of giant planets, accretion is thought to be controlled by a surrounding circumplanetary disk. Current astrophysical accretion disk models rely on hydromagnetic turbulence or gravitoturbulence as the source of effective ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Spectral and Temporal Properties of CXOUJ122956.7+075728 (ULX-1), an Ultraluminous X-Ray Source in NGC 4472

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics
This report presents a comprehensive analysis of the spectral and temporal characteristics of a highly significant Ultraluminous X-ray Source (ULX) designated as CXOUJ122956.7+075728 (ULX-1) situated in the elliptical galaxy NGC 4472 within the Virgo ...

The Cooling Flow to Accretion Flow Transition

open access: yes, 1999
Cooling flows in galaxy clusters and isolated elliptical galaxies are a source of mass for fueling accretion onto a central supermassive black hole. We calculate the dynamics of accreting matter in the combined gravitational potential of a host galaxy ...

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Evolution of the Shoreline Between the Ports of Valencia and Sagunto, Spain (1957–2024)

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Coastal areas are increasingly affected by erosion due to climate change and human interventions, threatening the stability of many shorelines. Understanding coastal dynamics is therefore crucial for developing effective conservation and management ...

Bondi-Hoyle-Lyttleton Accretion onto a Protoplanetary Disk

open access: yes, 2009
Young stellar systems orbiting in the potential of their birth cluster can accrete from the dense molecular interstellar medium during the period between the star's birth and the dispersal of the cluster's gas. Over this time, which may span several Myr,

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

The relationship between the emission line, continuum luminosity, and Baldwin effect in blazars

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Aims. This study investigates the relationship between the Mg II λ2798 Å emission line and the 3000 Å continuum luminosity, as well as the Baldwin effect, in a sample of 40’,685 radio-quiet (RQ) quasars and 441 flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs ...
