Relativistic Accretion [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
A brief summary of the properties of astrophysical black holes is presented. Various modes of accretion are distinguished, corresponding to accretion at rates from well below to well above the Eddington rate.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Impact of magnetic field gradients on the development of the magneto-rotational instability

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. The magneto-rotational instability (MRI) plays a crucial role in accretion disk modelling, driving magnetohydrodynamic turbulence and facilitating enhanced angular momentum transport.

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Development and Evolution of the Rattlesnake Creek Terrane, Klamath Mountains, Northern California

open access: yesGeosciences
The basement of the Rattlesnake Creek terrane (RCT) in the Klamath Mountains is a mélange of metamorphosed sedimentary and igneous blocks. Recent work shows that the overlying RCT cover sequence has a North American provenance but formed after accretion ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Broad iron line as a relativistic reflection from warm corona in AGNs

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. We present that the broad feature usually observed in X-ray spectra at around 6.4 keV can be explained by ray-traced emission from the two-slab system containing a dissipative, warm corona on the top of an accretion disk in an active galactic ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

A deep X-ray and UV look into the reflaring stage of the accreting millisecond pulsar SAX J1808.4−3658

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We present a detailed X-ray and UV high-time-resolution monitoring of the final reflaring phase of the 2022 outburst of the accreting millisecond pulsar SAX J1808.4−3658, based on simultaneous XMM-Newton and Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observations. The

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.
