Direct Synthesis of High‐Valence Protein@UiO‐66 Composites: Linking Crystallization Pathways to Protein Encapsulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work reports a direct, biocompatible method to synthesize UiO‐66, enabling one‐step encapsulation of proteins without compromising crystallinity or activity. Using advanced in situ and ex situ techniques, the study reveals that proteins integrate concurrently with MOF growth, forming crystalline protein@UiO‐66 nanoparticles, and provide insight ...

Hierarchically Engineered Multi‐Enzyme Nanoreactors for in vitro Drug Biosynthesis and Pathway Transplantation Into Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchically structured metal–organic framework (eMIL) is shown to host the complete six‐enzyme biosynthesis pathway for the anti‐cancer pigment violacein, reshaping reaction dynamics and multiplying in vitro yields. eMIL nanoreactors deliver this reconstituted bacterial multi‐protein system into mammalian cells, where cell‐derived substrates and ...

Bacteriophages as an Up-and-Coming Alternative to the Use of Sulfur Dioxide in Winemaking

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Certain acetic and lactic acid bacteria are major causes of quality defects in musts and wines, giving rise to defects such as a “vinegary,” “sharp, like nail polish-remover” taste or preventing alcoholic and/or malolactic fermentation. Sulfur dioxide is

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

ENDOPHYTIC BACTERIA ASSOCIATED WITH SUGARCANE AND ITS POTENTIAL TO SUPPRESS SPORISORIUM SCITAMINEUM, THE CAUSAL FUNGAL PATHOGEN OF SMUT DISEASE [PDF]

open access: yesArab Universities Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2019
Bacterial endophytic ubiquitously colonize the internal tissues of the plant. The purpose of this study was to isolate and identify the endophytic bacteria from sugarcane stalks which have antagonistic activity against Sporisorium scitamineum, the causal

Ratiometric Mycotoxin Detection in Living Plants With Dual‐Emissive Nanosensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A minimally invasive microneedle patch integrates carbon dot‐embedded metal–organic frameworks as nanosensors to detect a key fungal toxin in living plants. The nanosensor produces a ratiometric fluorescence signal that enables early, non‐destructive diagnosis of fungal infection before visible symptoms, offering a new biomaterials‐based strategy for ...

Distribution and Characterization of Plasmids in Acetic Acid Bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1985
Eighty-seven strains of acetic acid bacteria were surveyed for plasmids by CsCl-ethidium bromide equilibrium centrifugation of cell lysates. Twenty-seven of the 33 strains of Acetobacter were found to harbor plasmid DNA and most strains contained multiple species of low-molecular-weight plasmids.

Assessing TiO2/Chitosan‐Based Hydrogels for Water Remediation: Sunlight‐Driven Degradation of Antibiotics in Water

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Chitosan–TiO2 composite hydrogels combine adsorption of organic pollutants with photocatalysis, allowing to remove 85% of a broadly diffused antibiotic (sulfamethoxazole) under direct sunlight irradiation, opening great promises for point‐of‐use, outdoor applications.
